Willie Swain

Born on June 30, 1956, in Talladega, Alabama, Mr. Willie Arthur "Bird" Swain was the cherished son of Rosie Lee Swain Garrett and the late Lee Washington Garrett. A man of great faith, Willie embraced the teachings of the Lord from an early age and found comfort in his spiritual journey at Kingston Missionary Baptist Church before joining Destiny Mission under the guidance of Prophet Darrell Keith. Willie was educated in Talladega County. He completed his course of studies at Talladega County Central High School (TCTHS). Upon completion, Willie proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and later dedicated his skills to the construction industry as a talented cement finisher. Willie was affectionately known as "Bird" by his family, community, and friends. Throughout his 67 years of life, he nurtured five beloved children, leaving a legacy of love and laughter that will endure through the memories he created. Known for his quick wit and competitive spirit, Willie touched the lives of many with his infectious humor and unyielding passion for the simple joys of life. He loved his family and was always full of jokes. No matter what his competition was, whether it was dominos, a good game of cards, or basketball he hated to lose. Mr. Swain was also known as "The Ford Man". He always kept his cars clean, and you were not allowed to sit or relax on his cars. When he wanted to entertain, he would pull out his guitar and speaker and give you a free show bringing laughter to everyone around. Mr. Swain will truly be missed by all the hearts he has touched and lives he encountered. Two of his favorite songs were "Is God Satisfied with Me" and " I'm Going On The Other Side". On Thursday morning, Mr. Willie Arthur "Bird" Swain met the eyes of God as he peacefully transitioned to the other side joining his father, Lee Washington Garrett, brother, Edward Swain, grandparents, Jerry Hogan Swain, Sr. and Plumer L. Swain, uncles, Willie L. Swain, Jerry H. Swain, Jr., and Eddie Junior Swain, and aunt, Betty Ann Swain Wilson. Mr. Swain's fun loving memories will forever be cherished by his three sons: Jimmie (Tereka) Garrett of Lincoln, LaCortney Swain of Alpine, and Willie (Jessica) Swain, Jr. of North Carolina; two daughters, Krystle Swain of Talladega and Louella Swain of Sylacauga; loving and devoted mother, Rosie Lee Garrett of Alpine; five brothers, Michael (Gwen) Garrett of Alpine, Douglas Garrett of Alpine, Willie E. (Selisa) Garrett of Childersburg, Vince (Tonette) Garrett of Sylacauga, and Curtis (Robesha) Garrett of Alpine; one sister, Evelene Barckley of Chelsea; one uncle, Kindness (Janelle) Swain; four aunts, Jannie Mae Powell, Minnie (Demos) Garrett, Co-Pastor Dorothy Sue Keith, and Mary Ann Swain; ten grandchildren: Sevyn Garrett, Kristade Swain, Nautica Swain, Nyra Swain, Kordes Swain, JaMario Swain, London Swain, K'Von Swain, LaCortney Swain, Jr., and Jesiah Swain; two great-grandchildren: Caylem Estelle and Kayden Burrell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
