Ulysses Smoot

Born on January 30, 1954, to the union of Johnnie Smoot, Sr. and Clevie Lee Jones Smoot, Ulysses Smoot graced this world with his quiet strength, unwavering faith, and gentle spirit. Ulysses Smoot's dedication to his faith was unwavering, having started his spiritual journey at a young age when he united with Mt. Zion CME Church and later finding comfort and community at Kelly Springs Missionary Baptist Church. His commitment to his beliefs was surpassed only by his love and devotion to his family. A graduate of Winterboro High School, Ulysses pursued a successful career at Georgia Pacific Corporation holding a key position as a press operator, where his hard work and dedication were highly regarded. However, his true joy was found in the loving embrace of his wife, Sharon Jemison, with whom he shared many blessed years of marriage, love, and companionship. Ulysses was a man of many passions. From quiet moments spent by the river, fishing, to the artistic expression he found in drawing and art, his creativity and love for life were evident in all that he did. His warm smile, kind heart, and gentle presence will be deeply missed by all who were privileged to know him. On September 17, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family, Mr. Ulysses Smoot entered into eternal rest peacefully while under the care of Alabama Hospice. As he transitioned to his eternal rest, he was met by his parents, Johnnie and Clevie Smoot. Mr. Smoot leaves memories that will forever be cherished in the hearts of his loved ones: his devoted wife, Sharon Smoot; son, Ulysses Smoot, bonus son, Christopher Jemison; two daughters, LaWanda McGhee and Cora (Earnest) Jones; two brothers, Johnnie Smoot and Rev. Willie (Earnestine) Smoot; two sisters, Earnestine (Thomas) Jemison and Mary Jo Smoot; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. In honoring Ulysses Smoot's memory, let us cherish the love, wisdom, and joy he brought into our lives. As we gather to celebrate his life, let us reflect on the profound impact his spirit had on all who knew him, and may his memory bring us comfort and solace in the days ahead.
