Sonya Butler

Mrs. Sonya Miller Butler, began her life's journey on December 24, 1965, to the union of the late Sam Miller, Jr. and the late Margaret Satcher Miller as their Christmas gift and their baby girl in Anniston, Alabama. On Thursday night, May 22, 2025, in God's perfect timing and His perfect selection, He picked her to be with Him in perfect peace. Sonya, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, auntie and friend, surrendered this life at Regional Medical Center in Anniston at the age of 59. Sonya confessed Christ as her personal Savior early in life at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastorage of the late Rev. Cleveland Jones. Along life's journey, she met and married William (Zeek) Butler, her lifelong love of over 40 years. They shared their love with four beautiful children whom she loved dearly: Nona, Robert, Lonzo, and Tasha. Sonya received her formal education in the Anniston City School System where she was a member of the Anniston High School Class of 1984. She spent many years touching the lives of students while diligently working in the Anniston High School cafeteria where she was fondly known as the "Lunchroom Lady" until she retired. Sonya, a true daddy's girl at heart, loved to cook, dance and party. With her easy-going spirit, she made her home a gathering place and welcoming center for her family and friends whom she cherished, filling it with laughter and love. She embraced life with open arms, and her fun-loving nature will always be remembered by those who were lucky enough to know her. Sonya was also a proud member of the Daughters of Thomas A. Williams Elks Lodge Temple#1286 with memberships in the following: James E. Kelley Council No. 79, Antlered Guard, Pass Grand Degree, and Ideal Friends Chapter of the Eastern Stars. Sonya's memories will forever be cherished by all the people she has ever touched especially her beloved husband, William H. Butler of Anniston, Alabama; children: Alether V. Miller of Huntsville, Alabama, Robert L. Miller of Anniston, Alabama, Alonzo Miller of Anniston, Alabama, and Natasha M. Collins (Marcus) of Atlanta, Georgia; step-sons, Antonio Toney and Mikko Toney of South Carolina; beloved grandchildren, Jamaricq, Eriyanna, Skylar, Paris, William, Kameron, Kydn, Jade, Londyn, and J'Kyden; great-grandchild, Nazar; siblings, Delmas Satcher (Shirley) of Melrose, Florida, Jacqueline Taylor, Delilah Miller, Millicent Carson, Robin Miller, Sandra Miller, Sam Miller, Ill (Lisa) all of Anniston, and Nellie (Micheal) Ellis of Munford, Phillip Walker, Joshua Walker (Ashley), and Samatha Walker of Lafayette, Georgia; in-laws, Julius Butler, Jr. and Teresa Butler of Anniston, Alabama; bonus sisters, Brenda Anderson of Munford and Patrice Jackson of Anniston; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sam, Jr. and Margaret S. Miller, her in-laws, Willie R. and Julius Butler, Sr., Efrem Butler, and Carolina Butler, her nephew, Carlos Miller, her grandparents Sam, Sr. and Mollie Miller and Robert L. and Ida Bell Satcher, and a host of aunties, uncles and cousins all waiting for her in heaven. Sonya Butler's spirit will forever be a part of our lives, reminding us to cherish family, celebrate life, and embrace every moment with joy. We love you, Sonya. Thank you for filling our days with love and laughter.
