Roman Derick King

Mr. Roman Derick King, known by his family and friends as the Greatest of All Times (G.O.A.T.), was a legend in his own way . Born on December 22, 1970 to the union of Roman King and Paulette Ball King, in Talladega, Alabama, Roman radiated love, charisma, and joy throughout his life-a beacon of light to all who had the privilege to know him. Roman was nurtured in a loving home filled with faith and music, uniting with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church at a young age, where he showcased his musical talents on the piano. He was educated in the Talladega County School System where he was a graduate of Talladega County Training School in the class of 1989. With education being a fundamental part of his life, Roman continued his education by attending Alabama A & M University where he met two of his lifelong brothers, Chuck, and once making a visit to meet Chuck's family, he gained another brother, Mike. His love for learning led him to join the Army Reserve during high school and later enlisted full-time active duty in the United States Army in November 1990, where he served his country for four years with honor and distinction as an Administration Specialist and Cannon CRMBR. Roman's military achievements are a testament to his dedication, including the following awards and commendations: Southwest Asia Service Medal Bronze Service Star-3, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal 2nd Award, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Overseas Bar. Once returning to civilian life, Roman remained an active-duty member of the United States Army Reserve. Roman was a proud Gulf War Veteran whose education blossomed into full bloom when he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Management of Human Resources from Faulkner University and he later received two master's degrees, one in Human Resources Management and one in Global Technology Management from American Intercontinental University. In a career defined by excellence, Roman's career flourished in Global Technology. Roman began as a Data Conversion Operator in 1996 and held several positions in mail processing and customer service including Station Manager, Manager of Customer Service Operations, Manager of Post Office Operations and Postmaster in multiple locations to include Alabama, Tennessee and Virginia. He also served as the Officer-in-Charge for Washington DC, Maryland District. Before announcing the executive appointment of Roman D. King to the position of Postmaster of the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Post Office on June 15, 2024, he held the acting position as Officer-in-Charge of the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from July 21, 2023. Roman is also a graduate of the New Supervisor Program (NSP), Advanced Supervisor Program (ASP), and Management Essentials for Field Leadership (MEFL). He was also Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certified. Roman's heart truly belonged to his family. He found his soulmate in the former Ms. Alseca Holt, and they celebrated twenty-three years of marriage filled with love and shared dreams. Together, they nurtured six beautiful children, fostering a loving home where laughter echoed and memories were made. Roman's passion for life was infectious-his jokes, vibrant spirit, and welcoming smile could brighten even the darkest room. Roman was a very outgoing, fun-loving, and charismatic legend who was very generous and giving, always lending a helping hand. If there was a party, he was definitely going to be the life of it. A great husband, loving father, beloved son, wonderful sibling, caring uncle, dear cousin, and forever friend has physically left us, but will always remain etched in our hearts. Beyond his professional endeavors, he was a master chef in the kitchen who loved experimenting his culinary skills, always delighting friends and family with gourmet meals inspired by his travels. If you asked for a certain meal, Roman was going to prepare it just that way! His exuberance extended to his love for fantasy football, golfing, and gaming, where he thrived as a creative content creator, bringing joy to those around him. He was one of the best content creators with the greatest imagination of putting things together to makes things happen. Roman has traveled the world enjoying life and all it had to offer. Roman cherished the bonds he formed throughout his life, treating friends as family and leaving an indelible mark on all who he encountered. As time winds its course, we look ahead to a future where Roman's spirit transcends this earthly realm, as he embarks on his journey towards eternal peace. On Friday, February 13, 2026, Roman's journey on this earth concluded while he was enveloped in the love of his wife at Inspira Medical Center in Mullica Hill, New Jersey. He is now reunited with his father, Roman King, son, Jaylen King, brother, Corey King, grandmothers, Eleanor Curry and Isma King, grandfathers, Elvin Ball, Sr. Arthur King, and Sylvester Pointer, nephews, Neil King and Uriah Humphrey, and an array of family members who awaited him with open arms in the next life. As we hold Roman in our hearts, let us remember him not only with sorrow but with the vibrant joy he shared with each of us, ensuring his spirit will forever thrive in our memories. Roman leaves tapestry of memories woven with love to forever be cherished by his loving and devoted wife of twenty-three years, Alseca King; four sons, Tacorian (Jessica), Justin, Sr. (Shenae), Aaron, and Jarvis; daughter, Jordan; his beloved mother, Paulette King; two caring brothers, DeMarko King and Nicholas (LaTesha) King; loving sister, Ayanna King; grandmother, Clara Richardson; adorable grandchildren, Justin, Jr., Christian, Myzel, Corrina, Savannah, and Paiton; five bonus brothers, Andre (Sylvia) Jemison, Ray Lawrence, Michael (Belinda) Brooks, Charles (Kimberly) Marcus, and Jenord Taylor; mother-in-law, Odessa Cain; father-in-law, Alphonso (Shelley) Holt; sister-in-law, Leanetta (Shomond) Harris; brothers-in-law, Alleric (Sabrina) Holt and Alfonza (Odette) Holt; and a multitude of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. As a world Postmaster and a legend in his own way, Roman's memories will also forever live in the hearts of all his wealth of colleagues and co-workers across the globe. As we commemorate Roman's remarkable journey, we reflect on the countless memories created, the friendships forged, and the love spread across his 55 beautiful years. Though he has left this physical world, his spirit will forever reside in our hearts, a testament to the immeasurable impact he has made on our lives. Roman Derick King, an esteemed Postmaster, has left behind a legacy of dedicated public service and community connection. Known for transforming the local post office into a welcoming hub, he served with integrity, warmth, and a commitment to connecting neighbors for years to come.
