Born on August 16, 1956, in Talladega, Alabama to his beloved parents, A.C. Garrett and Flossie Calhoun Garrett Jones, Mr. Richard Garrett's journey was one filled with selfless service, unwavering devotion, and abundant love for his family and community. Richard attended various churches as he traveled throughout different parts of the world and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior while stationed in South Carolina. He received his formal education the Talladega City School System where he excelled academically earning him a college scholarship to Jacksonville State University earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Throughout his life, Richard exemplified resilience and dedication, serving his country as an engineer and Captain in the United States Army while garnering numerous accolades and honors for his service including the Army Service Ribbon, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon,Pistol.45 Cal (Sharpshooter), and Hand Grenade (Sharpshooter). His passion for caregiving led him to become a devoted Clinical Nurse, a role in which he touched the lives of many with his compassion and skills. While attending school, he also worked as a security guard at night and served as an active reservist. Mr. Garrett loved his nursing career and enjoyed working with the geriatric patients at an Atlanta hospital where he was a head nurse. Richard, better known for his vibrant spirit and zest for life, enjoyed the simple pleasures of running, playing tennis, and fishing by serene waters. His charming eyes and presence lit up any room, and his laughter was infectious to all those fortunate enough to have known him. On Sunday morning, August 18, 2024, Mr. Richard Garrett departed this walk of life and entered the heavenly realm while residing at The Magnolia Gardens in Rainbow City, Alabama. Mr. Richard C. Garrett leaves to cherish his memories, three sons, Terrance (British) Merritt, LaMarcus (Taneshia) Woodgett, and Jason K. Ino; two daughters, Demetria Y. Garrett and Ebony Garrett; his parents, A.C. Garrett and Flossie Jones; three aunts; two uncles; five grandchildren, Austin S. Merritt, Angel T. Merritt, Mehki A. Woodgett, Isaiah A. Woodgett, and Camren D. Garrett; long-time friend, Winfrow; former wife, Yvette Garrett; and a host of other relatives and friends. As we honor his legacy and celebrate a life well-lived, will pay tribute to Richard's profound impact on all those he encountered. The world may have lost a remarkable man, but his memories, kindness, and love will forever reside in our hearts. May we find comfort in the cherished moments shared, the lessons learned, and the love that will continue to guide us. Let us walk together in unity as we bid farewell to Richard C. Garrett, a beacon of light in our lives. Rest in peace, dear Richard. Your spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were touched by your grace and kindness.
