Mr. Obie Lee Boswell

Born on October 23, 1948, in Talladega, Alabama, Obie was the cherished son of Richard and Augusta Boswell. Obie's commitment to education guided his life's path. After graduating from Ophelia S. High School in 1967, he pursued his passion for teaching by earning a Bachelor's Degree in Science Education from Alabama A & M University. He embarked on a teaching career in Columbus, Ohio before returning to Alabama to be closer to his family. Once returning home, he became employed with Georgia Pacific and after many years of being a dedicated employee, Obie retired to enjoy to fruits of his labor. He always believed in working for himself, so he began his own lawn care business which he enjoyed until his health began to fail. Obie loved reading and studying the "Word"; however, in his spare time you could find him doing a little yard work, working on cars, and tinkering with a little bit of everything. During his years in Alabama, Obie became a valued member of the community. He shared over five decades of matrimonial bliss with his beloved wife, Myra Boswell, whom he married on December 20, 1971. Their union brought forth three loving children: Demond Boswell, Denise Boswell, and Tara Green. Obie's dedication to his family was unwavering. He reveled in their love and support, which brought him immense joy. A man of faith, he rededicated his life to Christ and found solace and guidance through his active involvement in Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church. As an assistant Sunday school teacher, trustee, deacon, church clerk, and member of the benevolent funds committee, Obie touched the lives of many through his service. Beyond his commitment to education and church, Obie was passionate about giving back to his community. He served as the president of the Ophelia S. Hill Alumni Association and the Jenifer Community Cemetery. Always willing to lend a helping hand, Obie touched the lives of countless individuals with his kindness and generosity. Obie Lee Boswell, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, and teacher, gracefully departed from this world on Monday morning, December 11, 2023, at his home in Munford, Alabama while surrounded by loved ones. He was welcomed home by his parents, Richard and Augusta Boswell, brothers, Billie Boswell and Louis Boswell, and sisters, Minnie Ellison and Nellie Boswell. Obie's spirit will be eternally remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy carries on in the hearts of his beloved wife, Myra Boswell; children, Demond (Stacey) Boswell of Murrieta, CA, Denise Boswell of Madison, AL, and Tara (Tony) Green of Georgia; his three grandchildren, X'Zavien Boswell, Derrick Thomas, and Dion Thomas; great-granddaughter, Ava Boswell, who will forever hold his memory close; Goddaughter, Jaleesa (Alvin) Sumler;his sisters, Elizabeth Broadnax of Plant City, FL, Mary Jane Davis of Oxford, AL, Gloria Boswell of Munford, AL, and Willie Nell Boswell of Lakeland, FL; his sisters-in-law, Betty Boswell of Plant City, FL, JoAnn (Charles) Adams of McIntosh, AL, Janice Williams of Satsuma, AL, and YoSha (Charlie) McCray of Mt. Vernon, AL; his brothers-in-law, Robert Ellison of Cincinnati, OH, Joseph (Pamela) Breech of Anniston, AL, and Douglass Breech of Mt. Vernon, AL; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Obie Lee Boswell's impact on the lives he touched will be cherished and celebrated through the ages. May his soul find eternal rest, and may his memory continue to inspire and uplift all who knew him.
