Nancy Mae Rowland

Born on September 4, 1922 in Clay County, Alabama, Nancy Mae Miller-Rowland lived a remarkably long century. She was the last surviving sibling of four born to the union of Walter and Minnie Stokes Miller. At an early age, Mrs. Rowland made a profession of Christian faith and united with Bethlehem United Methodist Church known today as New Hope United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the church where she served on the kitchen committee, member of the choir, and as Mother of the church. During many church events, she enjoyed making the outfits for the programs. Although Mrs. Rowland had very little education, she assisted in supporting her family as a custodian in environmental services for many years. As Mrs. Rowland traveled this blessed century, she became the wife of the late, Mr. Wallace Rowland, Sr. on January 11, 1941, and together they share over 50 years of a sacred marriage and to this union came the blessing of nine children. Mrs. Rowland loved her family and was blessed to see six generations of loved ones. She. Was the matriarch of the family and will be remembered for being an outgoing and energetic person who always spoke what was on her mind. She loved being around people and each year she looked forward to celebrating her birthday!! For her, September 4 was a national holiday. Mrs. Rowland enjoyed fishing, riding, and cooking for her family; but when she felt a little luck, she would enjoy a game of cards, bingo, or the slots, and sometimes the centenarian caused Wind Creek Casino to come up SHORT!!!! She made the best of all the century of life God blessed her with and for that reason, we are forever grateful. On the evening of July 13, 2023, after God had graciously given this centenarian, Mrs. Nancy Mae Miller-Rowland 100 plus long remarkably blessed earthly years, he saw the road was getting rough and the hills were getting harder to climb, so he said "Come on home, my child, and take your rest", for you have done the work of my plans and now I need you to rest, I know you are loved, but I love best." As she peacefully followed the Master's order, she was reunited with her husband, Wallace, Rowland, Sr., parents, Walter and Minnie Miller, children, Wallace Rowland, Jr., Henry Lee Rowland, Sr., Columbus Ray (Belinda) Rowland, brother, Harvey Miller, Sr., sisters, Minnie Lee Hearn and Odessa Guyton, and two sons-in-law, Jessie Emziah and Dewayne Cochran. She leaves to cherish her loving memories; three daughters, Mary Emziah, Diane Rowland, and Patricia Cochran; three sons, Willie Ed (Patricia) Rowland, Walter Michael (Felisha)Rowland, Sr., and Jerome (Jessie Mae) Rowland; two daughters-in-law, Shirley Rowland and Deborah Rowland; twenty-five grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren; fifteen great-great grandchildren; three great-great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dedicated friends of the Knoxville Community.
