Mattie Bibbs

Born on April 8, 1937, in Talladega, Alabama, to her devoted mother, Hattie Stockdale, Ms. Bibbs graced the world with her compassionate spirit for 88 beautiful years. A pillar of strength in her community with an unwavering beacon of faith, Ms. Bibbs embraced Christ at an early age, dedicating her life to service at Rushing Springs Missionary Baptist Church. There, she flourished as mother of the church, an usher, and a cherished member of the choir. Her rich voice rose in harmony, echoing the love she shared with all who crossed her path. Educated in the Talladega County School System, she exemplified resilience as she navigated life's challenges with grace and humility. As a domestic engineer, she poured her heart into her work, nurturing homes and families with tenderness before retiring to enjoy life's simpler pleasures. Ms. Bibbs was a gentle spirit-a nurturing mother whose kindness knew no bounds. Her love for cooking and sewing flourished in her hands, crafting beautiful quilts that adorned her home and warmed the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to receive them. Above all else, she cherished her family, relishing in moments spent together, and never missed an episode of her beloved soap operas, particularly "General Hospital." On Tuesday evening, June 24, 2025, Ms. Mattie Stockdale Bibbs, a beloved matriarch of her family and community, peacefully embarked on her final journey, answering her Master's call while under the compassionate care of UAB St. Vincent's in Pell City, Alabama. Although her physical presence is no longer with us, her legacy of love and wisdom will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were touched by her grace. Surrounded by her steadfast faith and love, Ms. Bibbs now joins those who have gone before her, reuniting with her mother Hattie Stockdale, sisters Emma Finley, Betty Hearn, Bernice Gaston, and brother Walter Turner. Yet, her legacy of love, warmth, and wisdom will forever resonate in the hearts of her adoring family and friends. She leaves to cherish her legacy of love and memories eight children, Clyde Stockdale, Eunice Stockdale, Hosea (Valerie) Stockdale, Robert (Rosemary) Stockdale, Joseph Stockdale, Jerome (Mary) Stockdale, Sheila (Joel) Carter, and Benny Stockdale; twenty-two grandchildren, Katureh Stockdale, Quintin Stockdale, Jaquan Carter, Brinuko McKenzie, Demetrius Stockdale, Takeshia Elston, Coretta Wilson, Carlo Moore, Torey N. Britt, Ryine Truss, Correggio Stockdale, Shalisha Stockdale, Natasha Stockdale, Shameka Stockdale, Jesten Dickerson, Jasmine Dickerson, LaJasmine Wilson, Tamara Linnette, Isaiah Stockdale, Twanisha Hudson, Steven Plummer, and Lekeyia Stockdale; forty-eight great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; two wonderful caregivers, Valerie Stockdale and Jacqueline Cooley; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly. As we reflect on the beautiful legacy left behind by a truly extraordinary woman, may we all find comfort in our shared memories and the lessons of love she imparted. Together, let us celebrate her life and the profound impact she made on us all.
