Mary J. Drake, the beloved daughter of Judie Sandlin, was born on February 12, 1938, in Anniston, Alabama. Mary had an unwavering faith that comforted her through all walks of life. Though she didn't attend church regularly, she was a woman of strong faith, firmly believing that she would one day be with the Lord. Small in stature but mighty in spirit, she was a true spitfire who approached life with a temperamental spark and a warm heart. Along her earthly journey, Mary met the love of her life, Edward Drake, Sr. On December 21, 1955, they were united in holy matrimony and shared a wonderful journey that was blessed with two children. She was a devoted wife to her husband whom she adored. Her love for him was evident in every shared moment in their 69 years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, love, and endless memories with their children and grandchildren. Mary had a well-known sweet tooth, often delighting herself with a sweet treat. Beyond her role as a homemaker, she found joy in crafting, particularly in making beautiful ceramics and nurturing her lovely flowers. On Sunday, June 22, 2025, at the age of 87, Mrs. Mary J. Drake, a loving wife, mother , and grandmother, transitioned peacefully in the comfort of her home from this earthy walk of life to her new eternal resting place. She was preceded in death by her mother, Judie Sandlin, sister, Sarah White, and nephew, Ricky White. Mrs. Drake left a legacy of love and memories that will forever be cherished and remembered by her loving husband, Edward Drake, Sr.; sons, Edward Drake, Jr. and Gregory Gayle) McClellan; daughter, Sonya (Meatrice) Jones; grandchildren, Edward Drake, III, Stephanie Matson, Rebecca (Matthew) Bartlett, and Tyrell Jones; a host of great-grandchildren; niece, Jacqueline (Damen) Miller; other family members and friends. Rest peacefully, sweet Mary. You have returned to your heavenly home, and while we will miss you dearly, we celebrate the joy you brought to our lives. She may be departed from this world, but her spirit will forever remain our hearts.
