Lillie Stockdale

Born on November 26, 1947, in Talladega, Alabama to parents William Claytis Simmons, Sr. and Rosie Mae Taylor Simmons was a beautiful baby girl given the name Lillie Pearl Simmons. Lillie spent a lifetime exemplifying compassion, grace, and resilience. Her faith was an essential part of her life. At a young age she accepted Christ and was baptized while attending Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. She later became an active member of Antioch Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Matthew Leonard, Sr. where she shared her talents through various ministries and found comfort in her community of fellow believers serving on the usher board, singing in the inspirational choir, and on the nurse's guild. She was educated in the Talladega City School System where she attended Westside High School. Prior to joining the workforce, Lillie completed her education earning her GED. Lillie worked at Crown Textile for 18 years before joining the Talladega Board of Education as a CNP worker for over 35 years. Mrs. Stockdale's commitment to nurturing the youth extended beyond her own family, as she selflessly served the Talladega City School system, ensuring the well-being and nourishment of countless children throughout her career, not only meals but also care and compassion daily. Her impact on the lives she touched through her work will forever be remembered. Her kindness and commitment in the cafeteria resonated with all who knew her. Once retiring to enjoy the fruits of her labor, Lillie became known as "Ms. King" due to her daily visits at Burger King. The employees knew exactly what her order would consist of. As Lillie travel her 76-year earthly journey, in 1966 she was married to Lovell Johnson and from that union came the blessing of one daughter, Glenda. Later in life, Lillie found love again in her soulmate, Mr. Postdell Stockdale and they were united in holy matrimony sharing many years of a blessed and sacred marriage until his demise. Lillie affectionately known as "Lu-Lu" enjoyed spending time with family, and cherishing moments with her loved ones. Her dedication to her family was unmatched, and she found great joy in babysitting children and sharing moments of laughter and love with her nieces and nephews, but most of all, Lillie was going to make sure she knew what The Weather Channel was predicting and what jokes Steve Harvey had for the families on Family Feud on a daily basis. Mrs. Lillie Stockdale, a devoted and beloved mother, sister, aunt, and member of the community, made her grand entrance through those pearly gates on Saturday evening, August 10, 2024 as she boarded the train to glory while surrounded by her beloved family knowing that she had fought a good fight, she had finished the race, and God knows she had remained faithful. As she answered her Master's call and receive her crown of righteousness, she was reunited with her husband, Postdell Stockdale, parents, William C. and Rosie M. Simmons, brothers, Joe Charles Simmons, Jerry Simmons, and Bobby Gene Simmons, and sisters, Elizabeth Funderburg and Georgia Whitson. She is survived by her loving daughter, Glenda Johnson; devoted son, Derrick D. Simmons; three brothers, William (Jeanette) Simmons, Elijah (Myrtis) Simmons, and Lawrence (Karolyn) Simmons; five sisters, Thelma (John) Jackson, Barbara (Marvin) Draper, Louise (Jeff) Hawkins, Mary Lynch and Regina (Willie) Glover; three brothers-in-law, Rudy Watkins, Byron Watkins, and Carvella Watkins; three sisters-in-law, Clifferteen Swain, Phyllis Morgan, and Cecelia Twyman; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will forever hold her close to their hearts. As we celebrate her legacy, let us reflect on the immeasurable love and kindness she shared with all who knew her. This will be a tribute to the joy she brought to those around her and the enduring mark she leaves on the hearts of many. While gather to bid farewell to Mrs. Lillie Stockdale, let us remember her with fondness and gratitude for the light she brought into our lives. In her passing, may we find comfort in the memories we shared and the enduring impact of her presence. Rest in peace, Mrs. Stockdale, your spirit will forever be cherished in our hearts.
