Lafredrick Simmons

On November 11, 1991, in Ashland, Alabama, John Freddie Simmons and Octavia Smith became the loving and proud parents of a handsome and joyful baby boy who was given the name Lafredrick Jercori Simmons. At an early age, Lafredrick accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and united with Pleasant Home Baptist Church. He was educated in the Clay County School System and was a graduate of Clay County High School Class of 2010. Lafredrick continued his education at Southern Union College where he received his Associates Degree in Secondary Education. During his adolescent years while in school, Lafredrick was well-known for his ostentatious dressing, which gave him the name "Mr. President". Not only was he called "Mr. President" for his classy and sophisticated dressing, but also because of his passion and love for politics. He was the best debater of all times in Clay County, so he thought; and there was never a debate with Lafredrick when it came the "The Alabama Roll Tide". It was what it was "Roll Tide"!! Singing was a gift given to him from the Almighty. Lafredrick would use this gifted talent to sing the "National Anthem" prior to football games. He was a member of the Anointed Men of God for 2 years with his signature song being "Jesus Can" and one of his all-time favorites being "I Just Stopped By". Lafredrick, affectionately known by his family and friends as "Cori", and his nephews as "Uncle Fred" was a fluent speaker of what was on his mind and always the life of every party. There was never a dull moment when Lafredrick was around. It is often said that one should live without no regrets and Lafredrick exemplified that very concept. He had an unfathomable appreciation for family and the bond that was shared among those that was dearest to him. His loving sister, Jatori, considered him to be her best friend despite the daily debated conversations they shared, which will truly be missed. Of the many relationships that he established, his role as a son was the one he took great pride in. He loved his family with all his heart, but his nephews were his pride and joy. Simply because of who he was and a true people-person, Lafredrick was extremely easy to love. He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed everything life had to offer. Lafredrick will truly be missed in his community by his friends, loved ones, and by all the hearts he has touched On Wednesday, February 8, 2023, while under the care of Regional Medical Center in Anniston, Alabama, Lafredrick was at peace knowing the battle was not his, but the Lord's. He knew he had fought a good fight, he had finished his race, and he had kept the faith as he awaited his crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge will award to him. Although Lafredrick was a very private person, he knew God and that it was only by the grace of God he was able to answer his Master's call and peacefully transitioned to his eternal home where he will be singing in "The Heavenly Choir" Leaving behind to cherish all his love and precious memories are a loving and devoted mother, Octavia (Steven) Hester; father, John Freddie Simmons; six sisters, Jatori (Jeremy) Simmons, Dashia (Cedric) Avery, Sha'Kenya Chatman, Shanyail Hester, Jovonna Garrett, and Kassidy Hammonds; grandparents, Mary L. Smith, Minnie P. Moon, and Mary L. Ragland; five special aunts, Shannon (Brock) Odem, Amanda (Bernard) Billingsley, Cornelius (Tim) Kerley, Sharon Jones, and Jessica Simmons; three nephews, Devin Denny, Mazi McGinnis, and Aiden Avery; three nieces, Asia Avery, Shariyah Buchanan, and Taylor Garrett; best friend, Cornelius Hunter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relative and friends.
