John McKenzie

Mr. John Douglas McKenzie was born on July 28, 1949 in Talladega, Alabama to the late Mr. Eugene Wesley and Mrs. Nona Tanner McKenzie. At an early age, Mr. McKenzie accepted Christ and united with Lilly Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he was an active and faithful member of the choir. Later in life, Mr. McKenzie continued serving God and kept the love of singing when he joined New Maryland Missionary Baptist Church where he sang in the male chorus and the church choir. He loved his church family and remained a faithful member until his health began to fail. Mr. McKenzie was educated in the Talladega City School System and upon completing his education, he became employed as a trucker with Mid America for several years before becoming a dedicated employee for CPC Logistics. Along the path of Mr. McKenzie's 73-year earthly journey, he met the former Ms. Mary L. Nix and on February 4, 1972, the two became one when they were united in Holy Matrimony sharing over fifty years of marriage, and to this union, four children were born, Latangerla, Janetta, Tracy, and John David. He loved his family and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Mr. McKenzie was a man of many talents from working on cars to building just about anything a hammer and a nail could put together. He is truly going to be missed by all the hearts he has touched and lives he has encountered. On Wednesday, August 10, 2022, Mr. John Douglas McKenzie traded his earthly home for eternal rest when he peacefully answered his Master's call to reunite with his parents, Eugene Wesley and Nona McKenzie, brother, Donald Lewis McKenzie and sister Dorothy McKenzie. Mr. McKenzie leaves behind a legacy of love and memories to be cherished by his devoted loving wife of over 50 years, Mrs. Mary L. McKenzie of Talladega, Alabama; three daughters, Mrs. Tracy (Joseph) Stone of Atlanta, Georgia, Ms. Latangerla McKenzie of Talladega, Alabama, and Ms. Janetta McKenzie of Sylacauga, Alabama; one son, Mr. John David (Bernadette) Terrell of Talladega, Alabama; two sisters, Ms. Erma Pearson of Atlanta, Georgia, Mrs. Ella (Dan) Simmons of Talladega, Alabama; six sisters-in-law, Rev. Louise Morris, Mrs. Annie (Michael) Harmon, Mrs. Agnes (Robert) Barber of Talladega, Alabama, Ms. Shirley Nix of Talladega, Alabama and Mrs. Celestine (Monte) Garrett of Childersburg, Alabama; four brothers-in-law, Mr. William Duncan, Mr. Matthew (Mia) Duncan, Mr. Jerry W. Nix of Talladega, Alabama, Mr. Alfonza (Gail) Duncan of Goodwater, Alabama; twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, special friend, Elton (Mahalia) Robertson; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
