James Cornelia Gilley

Mr. James Cornelia Gilley, a devoted father, grandfather, and brother, was born on June 20, 1955, in Anniston, Alabama, to the late Charles and Lucille Gilley. James lived a spirited life filled with laughter, friendship, and a true love for his family. James came to know Christ at an early age and continued to praise him throughout his life. He received his formal education in the Anniston City School System graduating from Anniston High School as a proud member of the class of 1974. Upon entering the workforce, James worked several jobs, but his most rewarding career was repairing cars and houses. James was a man who brought joy to every gathering. Known as the life of the party, he could light up any room, especially with his dance moves. Throughout his life, James found many ways to spend his spare time. He enjoyed deep sea fishing, playing softball, shooting pool, or simply hanging out with his friends. His most enjoyable moments were spent with his children and grandchildren whom he loved more than life itself. He was an avid fan of the Auburn University Tigers and enthusiastically cheered his team through every game. On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, while in the comfort of his home, James C. Gilley received his reward and transitioned from labor to eternal rest. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lucille Gilley, and his siblings, Charlie Mae Parki, Mary E. Thompson, Charles Gilley, and Walfredo Gilley. James leaves his precious memories to forever be treasured by his daughters, Jascelynne (Karl Malbrough) Gilley and Tyler (Kenneth) Gilley-Thomas; sons, Cortez (Geovona) Simpson and Corey Gilley; grandchildren, Jamese Sims, Kyron Malbrough, Kourtlyn Malbrough, Tavieon Thomas, Jade Thomas, Kam'Ron Thomas, Laniyah Gilley, Cordae Gilley, Malayiah Gilley, Artnerses Simpson, and Artrnetta Simpson; brothers, Fred Curry, David Gilley, Donald (Yvonne) Gilley, Allen W. (Earacine) Gilley, William (Ann) Gilley, and Ricky Gilley; the mother of his daughters, Margaret Gilley; and a host of other relatives and friends. Though he may no longer walk among us, James Gilley's spirit will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
