Emma Jean Johnson

Mrs. Emma Jean Hall Johnson was welcomed into this world on May 3, 1939, in Eastaboga, Alabama by her parents, John Cooper Hall and Nancy Inez Miller. Emma dedicated her life to helping and nurturing others, both in her profession and within her family. A lifelong servant of Christ, Emma Jean accepted Jesus as her Savior while attending Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church singing in the choir in her youth. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her as she served as a deaconess at Corinth Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, New York. Later, she found her spiritual home at Faith Baptist Church in Anniston, where she continued to inspire others with her unwavering faith, even as her health began to decline. Emma Jean grew up in small community where she developed a deep appreciation for family values. She received her formal education in Munford, Alabama, graduating from Jenifer Ophelia S. Hill High School with the class of 1957. She later enrolled at Alabama State University to pursue a higher degree. In 1960, she moved to New York and embarked on a 40-year career at United Hebrew Home of Rochelle. Her loving and nurturing spirit extended beyond her career, as she opened her home and heart proving love and support to many children as a foster mom for over 20 years. Emma Jean shared a beautiful life with her husband, Hoyt L. Johnson, whom she married in 1960. After uniting in holy matrimony, their union was blessed with two daughters, Jennifer and Pam. Family was the foundation of Emma Jean's life. She enjoyed cooking for them, making lasting memories while traveling, and simply being together. Emma Jean was known for her strong will, quick humor, and her ability to make every moment unforgettable. She loved hard, protected fiercely, and left an imprint on every soul fortunate to cross her path. Emma Jean's favorite scripture, John 14:1-3, resonated deeply with her, and she embraced its message of hope and the promise of eternal life. On Sunday, December 7, 2025, at the age of 86, Emma Jean Hall Johnson, transitioned from labor to reward. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt L. Johnson; daughter, Pamela N. Johnson; grandchild, Nevaeh Johnson; parents, John C. Hall and Nancy I. Miller; and sister, Dorothy Turner. Her memory will forever be cherished by her children, Jennifer L. Johnson, Travis Johnson, LaShawn Johnson, Tamell Johnson, and Grace L. Johnson; grandchildren, Jamie M. Johnson, Niesha-Monic Johnson, Marcus L. Johnson, Loni I. Johnson-Welch, Ava Johnson, Sevyn Johnson, Krymsen Johnson, and Aubryn Johnson; great-grandchildren, Majesty Johnson, Daevian Johnson, Bri-Niyah Armstead, Brian Armstead, and Bella Armstead; siblings, Sonny (Jean), Joyce, Gwendolyn, Mildred, Samuel (Mary), and Grady (Lacy); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Though we say goodbye to Emma Jean Johnson, we take solace in the memories we created together and the love she cultivated in our lives. As we gather to celebrate her life, let us carry forward her spirit of kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith.
