Dexter Johnson

Born on April 17, 1975, in Talladega, Alabama, Dexter O'neal Johnson, Sr. was raised by his loving parents, Polly Johnson and Arthur Wills, Jr., who provided him with a strong foundation of love and support. Dexter brought joy and laughter to the lives of those around him. Dexter was a member of Walking in Faith Church under the leadership of Pastor Dexter Marbury. He attended school in the Talladega County School System, where he made lasting friendships and cultivated his cheerful spirit. Throughout his life, Dexter embraced various jobs, including custodial work, labor at Shelby Steel, and Alabama Power. Later in life, he found his passion as a skilled brick mason. Dexter's dedication and hard work were evident in the quality of his craftsmanship. With a vibrant personality and an infectious smile, Dexter was a joy to be around. He had an unwavering love for his family, finding immense fulfillment in being a devoted father to his children. Dexter cherished every moment spent with them, creating precious memories filled with laughter and love. Dexter had many interests that brought him happiness. He was an avid angler and found tranquility in casting his line while accompanied by his loyal and cherished companion, Tasha. He loved keeping his eye on Tasha and they loved taking care of each other. Dexter also enjoyed sharing meals and laughter with his family and friends, making sure everyone felt welcomed and valued. He enjoyed listening to music and talking to people. Dexter never met a stranger as he was always driving, riding, or traveling making the best out of life. Dexter O'Neal Johnson, a beloved son, father, brother, and friend, peacefully passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024, while surrounded by his beloved family at Brookwood Citizen's Baptist Medical Center. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Preceding him in death were his father, Donald Cecil Swain, Sr., loving dad, Arthur Wills, Sr., sister, Casey Wills; and uncle, Auston Eli Johnson. Dexter leaves all his fun loving memories to forever be cherished by his loving mother, Polly (Robert) Johnson; longtime companion, Tasha Herring, two sons, Dexter O. Johnson, Jr. and Kyrie Chapman; three daughters, Star Johnson, Haleigh Johnson, and Lasheuna Herring; four bonus sons, Qeviion Herring, Taquarri Herring, Demarus Smith, and Blesstin Gamble; Lasheuna Herring; three brothers, Jason Chatman, Donald Jim Swain, Jr., and Anthony S. Lewis; four sisters, Summer (Adrian) Jenkins, Sereatha Wills, Tarrica Kawren Jones, and Tanyel Jones; grandmother, Reatha M. Keith; aunts, Shirley Storey, Princina (Robert) Shack, Josephine (Eddie) Moore, Della (Warfield) Edwards, and Jacqueline Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Dexter O'Neal Johnson will be deeply missed and forever cherished in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul find eternal peace.
