David Calvin Stokes

David C. Stokes, age 65, of Anniston, Alabama, was born on July 23, 1960, in Anniston, Alabama, to the late Chester Stokes and Lula Bell Stokes. David attended Saks High School and was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. A devoted fan of the University of Alabama, he could often be found cheering on the Crimson Tide every football season. He loved spending time outdoors fishing, and one of his greatest joys was firing up the grill to prepare meals for family and friends. Whether sharing stories, laughter, or a home-cooked meal, David treasured every opportunity to bring the people he loved together. In 1990, David met the love of his life, Willie Pearl Calloway. Their friendship blossomed into a lasting love, and they were united in marriage on September 11, 1993. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and cherished memories. David's greatest pride was his family. His grandchildren lovingly knew him as "Pop Pop," a name he wore with pride. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion that will continue through the generations. On Saturday, July 4, 2026, David C. Stokes completed his earthly journey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Lula Bell Stokes; his brothers, Burr D. Stokes and Timothy Smith; his aunts, Willie Ann Elston and Laura Cunningham; and many other beloved relatives who welcomed him into eternal rest. He leaves to cherish his precious memory his devoted wife, Willie Pearl Stokes; his stepchildren, Charles (Christina) Stubbs, Jr. and LeShun Caldwell of Anniston, AL; his brothers, Julius (Doris) Moore-Stokes of Louisville, KY, Willie L. Stokes of Anniston, AL, Edward L. Stokes of Sylacauga, AL, Jeffery L. (Pamela) Stokes of Indianapolis, IN, and James M. Stokes of Indianapolis, IN; his sisters, Susie M. Fowler of Louisville, KY, Emma Jean (Elous) Morgan of Peru, IN, Geraldine (Alvino) Manson of Indiana, and Angeline (Richard) Rouldson of Indianapolis, IN; his special aunt, Helen Moore; his special cousins, Tammy Slaughter of Columbus, OH, Andre Moore of Columbus, OH, and Bonnie G. Cole of Anniston, AL; his adopted sister, Jennifer Williams of Indianapolis, IN; seven beloved grandchildren; eight cherished great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends. Though David's earthly journey has ended, the love he shared, the meals he prepared, the fish he caught, the laughter he inspired, and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His legacy of kindness, family, and unwavering love will never be forgotten.
