Darrell D. Hughley

On July 9, 1959, in Anniston, Alabama, Nellie Lee Hughley and the late William Otis Hughley embraced a lovely baby boy whom they welcomed to the world and gave the name Darrell Dewayne "Lump" Hughley. At an early age, Darrell accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and attended Mars Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Darrell was educated in the Calhoun City School system where he attended Anniston High School and was member of the Class of 1977. Upon completing his formal education, Darrell enlisted in the U. S. Army serving his country faithfully for 3 years. Once returning to civilian life, Darrell worked various jobs with his most recent job being at Regional Medical Center where he was a devoted and dedicated employee for over 9 years at which time his health began to fail. He was known as the floor shine and buffer guy! When Darrell had completed his task, you could see yourself in the floor, that is just how much pride he took in doing his job. Darrell would receive many compliments on a daily basis about his "Well Done" finished product. He was loved by all who knew and met him. Darrell was affectionately known as "Lump" by his family and friends. When he was not working, you could often find him doing what he enjoyed and loved best which was playing golf on his play station, hanging out in Lincoln Park where he grew up, and most of all, spending quality time with his family at family gathering where he was always making those who were in his presence laugh. Being that Darrell was the oldest of seven siblings, he was known as "Brother" to his loving, caring, and devoted sisters and brothers who identified him as the most lovable, kind-hearted, selfless, sweetest, and humble person you could ever meet, that was until you struck a nerve with him. And that was easy to do when it came to the Auburn War Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers. They loved him unconditionally and he is truly going be missed. On Monday evening, June 19, 2023 while under the care of Gadsden Regional Medical Center and surrounded by all his loved ones, God saw the road was getting rough and the hills were getting harder to climb so he beckoned for his child, Darrell Dewayne Hughley, at the age of 63, to peacefully take eternal rest. We are sure he will keep those heavenly streets that are paved with gold buffed and polished while making his father, William Otis Hughley, Sr., grandparents, Hugh Buchanan, Sr. and William Otis and Alma Hughley, nephew, DeMario Chatez Hughley, and brother, William Otis Hughley, Jr., laugh all around God's Kingdom. Darrell Dewayne Hughley's love and fun memories will always be remembered and cherished by his loving and devoted mother, Nellie L. Hughley; brothers, Elliot (Veronica) Hughley and Chris Hughley; sisters, Veronica Hughley, Santa (Tony) Twymon, Sabrina (Roderick) Trammell, and Jackie (Anthony) Oliver; a special friend, Rosalind Montgomery; a special son, Jamad, whom he assisted in raising as his own; special nieces, Vershona (Tonedric) Andrews, Vonda Pointer, and Shanillia Patterson; special nephews, Rodquez Trammell, Gamayle Wysinger, and Tony Oliver; special aunts and uncle; and he was "Uncle Lump" to a host of many other nieces and nephews; a special cousin to many other relatives and friends.
