Clifford Ball

Clifford Ball, Sr., the loving son of Willie Ball and Ernestine Hall Ball was born on December 16, 1945 in Anniston, Alabama. Growing up in Oxford, Alabama, he attended various churches as a youth, but for the past ten years he embraced his faith and became a faithful and dedicated member of Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church. His commitment to his faith and the church community was unwavering. Education played a significant role in Clifford's life. After receiving his formal education in the Talladega County School System and graduating from Ophelia S. Hill High School, Clifford was eager to expand his knowledge and skills, so he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. His thirst for knowledge guided him throughout his life. He devotedly served his country for four years before receiving an honorable discharge. Clifford's honorable discharge included several commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal and the Pistol Sharpshooter Badge. His bravery and loyalty were commendable. Following his honorable service, Clifford embarked on a fruitful career. Working as technician for many years with Alston Railroad in Rochester, New York before retiring and relocating back to Alabama. It was while Clifford was stationed in the Philippines, he met the love of his life, the former Ms. Adoracion Calderon. Soon their life changed forever when they were united in Holy Matrimony sharing over fifty-seven years of a fortunate and sacred marriage and the blessing three loving children. Clifford enjoyed various hobbies and pastimes. He found comfort in casting his fishing line into the tranquil waters of the nearby riverbanks and often times swimming. Clifford was also a master skater, showcasing his skating skills when teaching his children how to skate. He played many games in the bowling league while in Rochester and loved playing basketball with the military basketball team and even after he returned to civilian life, he continued playing basketball, making sure he took his family to watch the Harlem Globetrotters each time they were in Rochester. Above all, he treasured cherished moments with his family, especially his grandchildren and offering guidance and support as a father. Clifford known to many as "Big" was a people person, never meeting a stranger. He was a great provider, not only to his family but to anyone in need. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. His doors were always open assisting with the care of his family and many others. His departure has truly left a void in the lives of his loved ones who will always hold his memories to their hearts. Clifford "Big" Ball, Sr. peacefully departed from this earthly realm on August 3, 2024, while in the care of Regional Medical Center in Anniston, Alabama. He was a beloved husband, devoted father, and respected member of the community. Once entering those pearly gates, he was welcomed home by his parents, Willie and Ernestine Ball and brothers, Clinton Ball, Robert Ball, and James Ball. Clifford's legacy lives on through the cherished memories he leaves behind for his devoted wife of 57 years, Adoracion Ball; two sons, Clifford Ball, Jr. and Emilio Willie Ball; his beloved daughter, Rowena Ball;; grandchildren, Shontequa N. Ball, LaQuan Ball, Hassan Ball, Khadija Ball, Ymani Ball, Keera Ball, London Ball, Emilio Willie Ball, Jr., Laila Ball, Marcel Clifton Wright, Yulani R. Johnson, and Karrye J. Johnson; eighteen great-grandchildren; his absence will also be deeply felt by his nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. In this time of loss and grief, let us come together to remember Clifford Ball, Sr. as a compassionate, loving, and dedicated individual who made an indelible impact on the lives of those around him. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory live on through the stories and laughter shared by those fortunate enough to have known him.
