Benny Powell

Mr. Benny Powell was born on March 26, 1944 in Goodwater, Alabama to Homer Kennedy and Ollie Beatrice Bradford Evans. Mr. Powell accepted Christ at an early age when he joined Mountain Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Childersburg, Alabama. After migrating north to Chicago. Illinois he united with Broadview Missionary Baptist Church where he was an active and faithful member. He continued his faith and belief in God once he retired and moved to Powder Springs, Georgia by joining in fellowship with New Hope Missionary Baptist Church serving faithfully as an ordained deacon and on the usher board. Mr. Powell loved his church family and remained a faithful member until his health began to fail. He was educated in the Talladega County School System and upon completing his education, he decided to serve his country by enlisting in the US Army. While serving in the Army, he received his degree in engineering. Once returning home to his family after an honorable discharge, Mr. Powell made Chicago, Illinois his home. He was employed with Appleton Electric for many years before retiring and moving to Atlanta, GA. He later became employed with Marta Transit in the business office where he retired after several years of dedicated work. Along the path of Mr. Powell's 78-year earthly journey, he met the former Ms. Marinell Dill and the two became one when they were united in Holy Matrimony sharing over 48 years of marriage and the blessing of sharing six children together. He loved his family and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Mr. Powell loved to eat and enjoyed watching the news 24 hours a day. During football season, he dedicated his time to watching the Alabama Roll Tide and North Carolina Panthers, but when the wrestling was on, he would forget about everything else on the television. He is truly going to be missed by all the hearts he has touched and lives he has encountered. On Wednesday, November 16, 2022, Mr. Benny Powell traded his earthly home for eternal rest when he peacefully answered his Master's call to reunite with his parents, Rev. Frank and Mrs. Ollie B Evans, father, Homer Kennedy, brother, David Kennedy, sister, Frankie Mae Garrett, and grandson, Taylor Powell. Mr. Powell leaves behind a legacy of love and memories to be cherished by his devoted and loving wife; Marinell Powell; three sons, Carlton (Dominic) Powell, Benny Powell, Jr., and Christopher Powell; three daughters, Tovoria Character Thomas, Tracy Patterson, and Myra Powell (Steven) Malone; brothers, Bobby (Jack) Kennedy and Bryant Milner; four sisters, Deborah Ann (Thomas) Scott, Amy Williams, Vivian Young, and Ola Kay Milner; thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren,; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
