Archie Wesley, Sr.

On June 23, 1941, in Talladega, Alabama, Archie Leon Wesley, Sr. was the seventh child of ten children born to the union of Eugene and Annie Harmon Wesley. From a young age, Archie embraced the importance of education and strived for excellence. He completed his formal studies at Westside High School and went on to earn his Bachelor's degree from Alabama State University and as a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Beta Zeta Chapter. Demonstrating his commitment to lifelong learning, Archie pursued a Master of Science degree from Indiana University, solidifying his position as a respected educator. Throughout his career, Archie held various teaching positions, touching the lives of numerous students. His passion for education and his ability to connect with others had a profound impact on those he encountered. Whether teaching special education in the Gary Indiana School System or serving as the Building and Grounds Supervisor at Talladega College, Archie's dedication and leadership were widely recognized. A dear soul who embraced education, community, and the joy of meaningful connections, Mr. Wesley found peace and joy in the farming industry and enjoyed working and providing for his family. A well-known work-a-holic, Mr. Wesley along with retiring from the State of Alabama as a probation officer, was the owner and CEO of Wesley Car Care. Archie was also responsible for supervising hundreds of employees ensuring the beautification and grounds of the Talladega Nascar Motor Speedway were well maintained. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Archie found immeasurable joy and fulfillment in his family life when he met his college sweetheart, Shirley Wesley, and together they shared 56 beautiful blissful years of a blessed marriage. With this sacred marriage came the birth of their only child and namesake, Archie Leon Wesley, Jr. Their union was a testament to love, commitment, and shared values. Archie's vibrant spirit and generous nature were instrumental in his involvement within the Talladega community. Known for his unwavering support and willingness to lend a helping hand, Archie was a true beacon of light. His wealth of knowledge, particularly in industrial arts, agriculture, and current events, allowed him to assist countless individuals in need. Archie Leon Wesley Sr., a man of unwavering dedication to education and a pillar of his community, traded his earthly journey for eternal rest on October 3, 2023, at the age of 82. Preceding Archie in death were his parents, Eugene and Annie Harmon-Wesley and siblings, Selvy Wade, Natalie Nix, Eugene Wesley, and Hardin Wesley. Archie leaves behind a legacy of strength, wisdom, and kindness to forever be remembered and cherished by his dearly devoted and loyal wife, Mrs. Shirley Wesley; his loving son and daughter-in-law, Archie Wesley, Jr. and Dr. Teresa Wesley; his beloved grandson, Archie Wesley III; siblings, Ethel Grace Hightower, Edward, Warren, Clyde, and Olan Wesley; and a host nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends whose lives he touched. Archie Leon Wesley Sr. will forever be remembered as a true champion of education, a beloved family man, and a beacon of light within his community. May his soul find eternal peace, knowing the impact he made in the lives of those he touched.
