Woodrow Kirksey, Jr.

Elder Woodrow Kirksey Jr., a beloved man of faith and family, was born on January 21, 1953, in Talladega, Alabama, to the cherished union of Woodrow Kirksey Sr. and Lillie Parson Kirksey. With a spirit deeply rooted in service to God, Woodrow's life was a testimony to his unwavering faith and devotion to the Lord. From a young age, he accepted Christ and became an active member of Mt. Zebulon AFM Church of God, where he served with passion, engaging in various ministries and outreach initiatives that exemplified his love for God and his community. An ordained minister, Elder Kirksey dedicated himself to preaching and teaching the Word, cultivating the spiritual growth of those around him with wisdom and grace. A product of the Talladega County School System, Woodrow furthered his education through college studies. His hands, skilled and sturdy as a seasoned carpenter, built not only structures but also bridges-figurative ones-between people, in the construction industry where he made his mark until his health began to wane. Elder Kirksey's zest for life was infectious. An ardent fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Alabama Crimson Tide, he wore his colors proudly, his spirited cheers echoing in homes far and wide. His love of football extended beyond fandom; he devoted time coaching Munford High School's football team, nurturing young talents with encouragement and reverence for the game. On March 17, 2026, Elder Woodrow Kirksey answered the Master's call, leaving this earthly realm to join his beloved parents, Woodrow Sr. and Lillie, along with his brothers Frank and Willadale, and sisters Bobbie Jean and Thelma. He leaves behind a vibrant legacy of love and laughter cherished by his family and friends. Woodrow is survived by his devoted wife, Gay Kirksey; four sons, Tarrance, Chris, Jessie (Daliyah), and LaDon (Trista) Watkins; five daughters, Leasia (Jose') Brooks, Drucilla (Adrian) Weldon, Priscilla, Altise Logan, and Alshunda (Riccardo) Wilson; and two sisters, Artie Jackson and Doris (Thurman) Arrington. He is also remembered fondly by his mothers-in-law, Donnie Faye Perkins and Della Mae Hudson; his sisters-in-law Leslie (James) Hammond, Monic Stokes, Crystal Hudson, and Nicole King; his brothers-in-law Darren (Nicole) Reed and Ricco (Kate) Reed; and a wealth of grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and family in Christ. As we gather to honor this extraordinary man, let us reflect on his compassionate spirit, celebrate the legacy of love he leaves behind, and find solace in the promise of eternal life, rejoicing in the belief that he is now at peace in the arms of his Savior.
