Morris, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt passed away peacefully on October 18, 2020, at the age of 83 under the care of Regional Medical Center in Anniston, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of fifty-five years, Robert Lewis Morris; son, Wayne Morris and a grandson that was reared as a son, Tourious Morris. On June 3, 1937, in Alpine, Alabama, Ham and Nora Garrett gave birth to a beautiful and bubbly baby girl. Willie Georgia, affectionately called “G” by many, was the “knee-baby” of eight siblings. She was a nurturer and loved all people. Caring for others came easily! She enjoyed cooking meals for family and loved ones near and far. She could whip up a “potato pie”, a pan of dressing or a squash casserole without any thought. She was a feisty, fun-loving and kind-hearted mother and grandmother that was cherished immensely by her family and all who knew her. “G” married the love of her life, Robert Lewis Morris, on January 28, 1956 upon graduating from Talladega County Training School. To this union, 5 children were born. Although she treated everyone like family, her children were her most prized possession. She was a proud mother and grandmother. She always loved, provided and cared for her children without hesitance. Willie G. spent many years selling Protective Insurance and later became employed by Helen Keller School, where she retired as a dorm administrator. She loved the Lord with all her heart and with all her soul. She reared her children and grandchildren in the admonition of Christ. As a young mother, “G” joined Kingston Baptist Church in Alpine, Alabama and later moved her membership to Macedonia Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Moses C. Jones where she served as a deaconess and the President of the Missionary Society for many years. In later years, her Pastor, Rev. Dante Whitaker referenced her as one of the “Golden Girls” of Macedonia as she served as one of the “Mothers” of the church. Mother Morris diligently worked and served throughout her church and religious community, to include the Rushing Springs District for many, many years. A public servant at heart, Willie G. was a member of Ethel Chapter #75 of Eastern Star for over fifty years and served as a past Worthy Matron. She served faithfully until her health no longer allowed her to. Mrs. Morris was also a member of the NAACP, the Talladega County Democratic Conference and worked the voting polls for over thirty years. She will forever be cherished and remembered by her children: Cecelia Morris, Gary Morris both of Talladega, Alabama, Reba Hale (Orlando) of Eastaboga, Alabama and Rev. Quentin J. Morris, Sr. (Monina) of Ellabell, Georgia. Two grandsons that she raised as sons: Datrick Morris (Angela) of Talladega, Alabama and Justin Morris (Cassaundra) of Moody, Alabama. A nephew that was raised as her brother, Earl Truss (Mona) of Albion, Michigan. Nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, five sisters in-law, two brothers in-law, a special God-daughter, Georgia Goodwine Christian and a host of many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
