Raymond Smith

Mr. Raymond Smith, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, was born to the union of Delton Smith, Sr. and Veora Sims Smith in Lincoln, Alabama on March 6, 1949. With a spirit as vibrant as his laughter, Raymond graced our lives for 77 years before peacefully transitioning from his earthly home to eternal rest on May 21, 2026. From an early age, Raymond embraced his faith and united with the Holy Hill Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, where he nurtured a deep connection to his community. He proudly graduated from the Talladega County School System's Charles R. Drew High School and dedicated many years of his life to the construction industry as a skilled cement finisher. After a fruitful and fulfilling career, he retired, cherishing the fruits of his labor and the simple joys life bestowed upon him. Known as a charismatic jokester, Raymond had the unique gift of spreading joy and laughter. His warm spirit made him a cherished presence to all who knew him. He approached life with an infectious positivity, remaining steadfastly pleasant even in the face of adversity. His passions included the thrill of riding motorcycles in his youth, the joy of nurturing his lawn, and the satisfaction of working on cars. Above all, he held a special place in his heart for his grandson, affectionately known as "Lil J." Raymond's journey on this earth has been rich with love and connection. He found comfort in sharing meals, particularly at the Huddle House, where laughter and friendship followed him, enlightening the lives of his friends and family. His memory will forever linger in the hearts of many. He is reunited with his beloved wife, Vera Morris Smith, and those who preceded him in death, including his parents, Delton Smith, Sr. and Veora Smith, brothers Walter Smith, Floyd Smith, Lee Smith, Delton Smith, Jr., and Cecil Smith, along with his sister, Barbara Smith. Raymond is survived by his loving daughters, LaToya Smith and Chundranea Morris; two adoring grandchildren, Hydea Swain and Kendall Orr; two brothers, Robert Smith and Elder Gary (Mary) Smith; in-laws, Barbara Jean Smith; Eddie B. Morris, Matthew (Eula) Morris, Ollie Hill, Martha Jones, Dorothy (Ben) Pope, and Beaula Lawler; and a multitude of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and a community of friends and loved ones who will miss him dearly. May his legacy of laughter live on, and may we all hold a piece of his joyous spirit in our hearts as we gather to honor a life beautifully lived.
