Ms. Patricia Lanette Swain departed this walk of life on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, just six days shy of her seventy-first birthday. Born on May 26, 1955, in Cleveland, Ohio, Patricia was the beloved daughter of J.B. Truss and Doris Beavers Merritt. She graced the lives of many with her kindness, compassion, and strong dedication to service. A proud graduate of Glenville High School in Cleveland, Ohio, Patricia pursued her passion for helping others by earning a bachelor's degree from Talladega College, after relocating to Talladega, Alabama. Embracing her calling as a Social Worker with the State of Alabama, she touched lives across numerous counties, including Talladega, Etowah, and Montgomery, making lasting impacts on the community she cherished. A dedicated social worker at heart, she found immense fulfillment in her career, ultimately retiring in 2018, after many fulfilling years of service. Patricia was a woman of many interests; she found joy in reading, engaging in delightful conversations with family and friends, and, of course, showcasing her flair for fashion. Known as a true fashionista, she took particular pride in her impeccable style, choosing to express herself through the clothes she wore. Patricia's zest for life was evident in her love for traveling with her friends on memorable girls' trips. These adventures brought her countless cherished memories, laughter, and deepened bonds that she treasured throughout her life. Her vivacious spirit and infectious laughter will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. In her passing, Patricia reunites with her beloved parents, J.B. Truss and Doris Merritt, as she takes her rightful place in the heavenly realm. Patricia leaves behind a legacy woven with love, treasured by her son, Terrance (Jackie) Swain, and daughter, Takesa Swain (Norman) Smith. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, DeTerrance Swain, Shane Hill, Mahogany Blackmon, Tylan Swain, and Malik Smith; her beautiful great-grandchildren, Nyiomi George and Taylan Swain; beloved brothers, James Truss and Jerome Truss; sister, Dorothy Fluker; her best friends, Sherry Williams and Wyteria Collins; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, whose lives she enriched with her warmth and generosity. As we bid farewell to Patricia, let us carry forward the lessons of love, compassion, and service that she exemplified throughout her life, celebrating the profound impact she has made in our hearts and communities. May her memory be a guiding light and an enduring source of inspiration for all.
