"May The Work I've Done Speak For Me" Dr. Ola S. Curry, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt peacefully passed away on April 14, 2021 at the age of 71 surrounded by loved ones while under the care of Compassus Hospice. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Robert Roberson, Sr. and Ola Bell Garrett Roberson, and two brothers, Bobby and Jimmy Roberson. In Talladega, Alabama on December 1, 1949, to the union of Ola Bell and Robert Roberson, Sr. was birthed a beautiful, brilliant baby girl name Ola Mae. Ola Mae was the third of nine children and carried many titles, to name a few would be "Mae", "Ola Mae", "Mrs. Scott", "Mrs. Curry", and most importantly, "MOMMA". Dr. Curry was an advocate and loved all people. Caring for family and others came effortlessly. She enjoyed preparing meals for family and loved ones far and near. Dr. Curry was a very spirited, fun-loving, and kind-hearted mother and grandmother that was cherished immensely by her family, students, colleagues, and all who knew her. Singing was a special gift that Dr. Curry was blessed with. Often times you would hear her singing in the hallways at school or just sitting around entertaining family with her magnificent vocals. Dr. Ola S. Curry loved the Lord with all her heart and soul. She made certain that her children and grandchildren were reared in the admonition of Christ. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and united with Lilly Hill Baptist Church in Talladega, Alabama and later in her adolescence, she united with Apostolic Faith Holiness Church in Talladega, Alabama. Being an advocate for Christ, she fellowshipped with various churches spreading the word of God and serving faithfully until her health no longer allowed her to. Dr. Curry received her childhood education from Westside High School and was a member of the 1968 graduating class. Because of her love for education, upon Dr. Curry's completion of high school, she enrolled at Talladega College and received her bachelor's degree in Science in 1979, later she attended Jacksonville State University earning her master's degree in Science. In 1992, Dr. Curry continued furthering her education by obtaining her master's degree in Mathematics as an add-on. She later received her Educational Specialist Degree from the University of Alabama in 2003 and four years later in 2007 she received her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from University of Alabama. With all her knowledge, obtaining her final degree came easily when she acquired her master's degree in Counseling from Faulkner University in 2014. Dr. Curry was a servant learner who worked tirelessly to help inspire, educate and transform the lives of others throughout her career and various employments. Her employment history includes Crown Textile, Sears, and Talladega County Board of Education (1979-2014): Talladega County Training School, Munford High School, Talladega County Central High School and Genesis Alternative School. Dr. Curry also worked with Alabama Education Outreach from 1996 to 2003 and continues do Professional Development Services. Although her main focus was on furthering her education; with all the knowledge, proficiency, and intellect God had bequeathed to Dr. Curry; nevertheless, she still found time to make her life complete with marriage and giving birth to five beautiful children. Although everyone was treated like family, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her most prized possessions. Later in life, Dr. Curry found love and was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Henry Curry. She was a proud wife, mother, and grandmother. She always loved, provided and cared for her children without hesitance. She will forever be cherished and remembered by her husband of over 20 years Mr. Henry Curry of Talladega; three sons, Willie Dean Scott, Jr. and Paul (Tawanda) Scott of Talladega, Alabama and Derek (Nicole) Scott of Clinton, Mississippi; two daughters, Yteria (Donald) Richardson of Talladega, Alabama and Ola (Kelvin) Scott-Little, of Milledgeville, Georgia; a grandson she raised as her own, Jaquaveous Jamerson of Talladega, Alabama; five brothers, Robert (Wanda) Robinson, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, Ben (Lillian) Roberson, Bill Roberson, Tyrone (Shirley) Roberson, and Ricky (Tammy) Roberson all of Talladega, Alabama; one sister, Daisy (Alfred) Carroll of Missouri City, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Annette Roberson and Linda Roberson of Talladega, Alabama; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Although a pillar of the community has gone before us, Dr. Ola S. Curry has left a legacy behind and she will truly be missed by all the people she has encountered and lives she has touched.
