    Mildred Swain

    May 14, 1939 - March 19, 2022

On May 14, 1939, in Talladega, Alabama, Mr. Henry and Maggie Cook Spinks welcomed their baby girl Mildred into the world. At an early age, she confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior and united with the Mountain Home Baptist Church. Later in life, Mildred united with Mt. Zion CME Church in Alpine, Alabama and remained a member serving faithfully until her passing. She served as an usher for 19 years and many years as a missionary. Mildred loved the Lord and would read her Bible daily as continued to work in His vineyard. She received her education in the Talladega County School System at R.R. Moton School. Once completing school, Mildred became employed with Talladega Nursing Home for many years. Along Mildred's journey in life, she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. Wallace Swain and God blessed this union with seven children. Affectionately known by her family as "OOSIE", she loved her family with all her heart and enjoyed cooking, working crossword puzzles, and seniors' day out with her church, but most of all, Mildred found great joy in spending time with her great-grandchildren who were the apples of her eye. She was also a jokester, always telling jokes and making people laugh. Mildred will always be remembered for the sweet, kindhearted and giving person that she was. She was truly a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will immensely be missed not only by her family, but all the lives she has touched and people she has encounter. On Saturday, March 19, 2022, while in the comfort of her home, God peacefully closed the eyes of our beloved mother, Mildred Swain, and she entered into eternal rest reuniting with her devoted husband, Wallace Swain, loving parents, Henry and Maggie Spinks, three sisters, Vera Spinks, Mary Anna Keith and Doris Jean McCain and two brothers, John Oliver Spinks and Jolly Cozell Spinks. Precious memories will live on in the hearts of those she loved and who loved her including her seven devoted children, John Tracy (Ann) Swain of Talladega, Alabama, Lavon (Monique) Swain of Atlanta, Georgia, Robin Swain, Deborah (Timothy Kendrick, Sr.) Swain, Shirley Swain, Sherry Swain all of Talladega, Alabama and Tina Swain of Lincoln, Alabama; sisters, Pearl Spinks of Gadsden, Alabama and Jo Ann Dawson of Atlanta, Georgia; special friend, Verleane Matthews; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friend.
