June 25, 1938 - July 16, 2021
Mary Elizabeth Reaves was born in Sycamore, Alabama on June 25th, 1938, to the late Maggie Lee Nix and the late Henry Stamps. She attended R.R. Moten High School in Sycamore, Alabama. She confessed Christ at an early age and served faithfully on the Lilly Hill Missionary Board for many years. In her later years she was a devoted member of Word of God Community Church. Mary's diverse career ranged from being an employee of Coca-Cola to eventually retiring from Image Mills. She was proud to have served for some time on the Talladega Sherriff's Auxiliary Board. She found great happiness in the fellowship of family gatherings and showed by example of never losing pride in yourself. Her smile at receiving a new puzzle book or winning a hand of cards taught us all how to find happiness with even the smallest things in life. Love and laughter decorated her life's journey; most brilliantly seen through the care for her family and heard within the joy she had for the Lord and more importantly living every season to its fullest. On Friday evening, July 16, 2021, after God had graciously blessed and given Ms. Mary Elizabeth Stamps Reaves, affectionately known as "Madea" to us for eighty-three long earthly years, he felt it was time for him to peacefully close her eyes one last time to this earthly world while surrounded by loved ones in the serenity of her home, accept her new heavenly wings and fly to her new eternal home on high. At her new home, she was greeted by her son, Marvin Lynn Jackson, grandson, Kevin Smith, brothers, Earl Player, Jr., Henry Stamps Jr, Charlie Frank Stamps, William Arthur Stamps, and Adam Dexter Stamps, sisters, Henrietta Stamps, Louise Watkins, Bertha Lee Williams, and Betty Twymon. She will forever be remembered as a beloved mother (Madea) to her three daughters, Karolyn Jean (Lawrence) Simmons and Mary Faye Stamps of Talladega, Alabama and Connie Frances (Rickey) Smith of Ft. Mitchell, Alabama; one son, Roy Milton Stamps of Talladega, Alabama; She will never be forgotten as a treasured grandmother to Shaun Stamps, Teress Monique (Terry) Truss, DeQuarius Stamps, Alejandro Smith, Avis (Frederick) Carter, Courtney (Shenevelyn) Stamps, Rickey Smith, Jr., Santikka Stamps, and Jomari Stamps. Her memory will always be held dearly by her six siblings, Sarah Louise Whitson, Flora (Tom) Hunley, Beverly (Steve) Morrison, Brenda (Cheyenne) Curry, Emma Young, and Kenneth (Cathy) Stamps; a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends will also cherish her lasting memory.
