Maria A Elston Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

On August 23, 1971, in Anniston, Alabama, Elijah and Paula Spinks Elston welcomed to the world a beautiful bubbly baby girl named Maria Antionette. Maria was a God-fearing woman who loved the Lord with all her heart. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age when she united with Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Maria was a true servant of God's who worked in his vineyard countless hours and years as she not only served in many organizations in the church but was also over several organizations until her health began to fail. She was a member of the choir, the trustee board, the Pastor's Aid committee, was over the matron's ministry, the youth ministry, and the feeding and clothing ministry. Maria attended school in the Anniston City School System and was a 1989 graduate of Anniston High School. Upon her completion of school, she continued to further her education by attending Talladega College and later at Gadsden State College earning a certification in Office Management. At the time of her passing she was employed with HGS Engineering, Inc. working in the accounting department. Maria was a fun-loving person who loved her children and her beautiful grandchildren. They were the apples of her eyes and the joys of her life. She enjoyed dancing and spending time with her family and friends, but most of all being the matriarch of her family and planning their family reunions. When it came to food, she would definitely let you know that she loved to eat and that "Food Was Her Ministry". Although Maria loved dedicating her time to the Lord, she was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed football and baseball season cheering on the Auburn "War Eagles" and Atlanta "Braves". Maria was a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed immensely by all the hearts she has touched while traveling on the journey of life. God had better plans for Maria in his vineyard. On Thursday evening, June 3, 2022, while under the care of Huntsville Hospital, in Madison, Alabama, Maria peacefully departed this walk of life as she transitioned to her heavenly home dancing her way through those pearly gates joining hands with her parents, Elijah and Paula Spinks Elston, one brother, Vincent Elston and sister, Jacqueline Elston. Maria leaves to cherish and remember her loving memories: her daughter, Eleisia (Jeremy) Mastin; one son, Christopher (Tamekia) Staples; honorary parents, Dr. Sloan Gresham, Jr. and Mrs. Carnie Gresham; two brothers, Robbie Elston and Odis (Sandy) Elston; five loving grandchildren, Christyn Gooden, Harmony Gooden, Christopher Staples, Jr. Ezra MAstin and Kyrie Mastin; eight nieces and nephews, Rodriquez Elston, DeMario Elston, Niah Elston, Marico Kirby, Tedarious King, Jessica Kirby, Nigel Mosley, Donovan "Kyle" Elston and Aquerevior Sherre Staples; and a host of other relatives and friends.
