Remembering the Life of Ms. Mamie Lee Stamps Whitson, 97, of Greenville, SC, formerly of Talladega, Alabama, will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at 12 p.m. at Mt. Zion CME Church Cemetery in Alpine, Alabama with Pastor Clarence Henderson officiating. There will be a public viewing for Ms. Whitson on Monday, December 28, 2020 from 1-6 p.m. and Wake from 3-5 p.m. at S.M. Goodson Funeral Home. Professional services entrusted to S.M. Goodson Funeral Home-Talladega. Mrs. Mamie Lee Stamps Whitson was born May 13, 1923 to the parents of Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Gustavia Scott Stamps in Winterboro, AL. At a young age, Mamie confessed Christ and joined Mt. Zion CME church in Alpine, AL. She attended the church school and later the former Pine Hill School, which was in the Winterboro community. Having a great interest in hair styling, Mamie attended the Wenona School of Beauty and Cosmetology in Birmingham, AL. As a licensed beautician, she opened shop in her home and specialized in the “Hand Press and Curl.” Mamie married the late Mr. J.C. Whitson and with this union two sons were born. By this time, she was living in Talladega, AL and joined Jacobs Chapel CME Church and was a dedicated member of the Usher Board for many years. With more than 50 years in the hair business, Mamie retired to her front porch, walking to and from town, gardening, and just enjoying her family, friends, and neighbors. Due to her declining health, she moved to Greenville, SC in 2018 to be with her son Joseph and daughter-in-law Mary Ann. On December 21, 2020, Mamie moved to her eternal home. She was preceded in death by her parents Tommy and Gussie, her husband J.C., her son Tommy Lee Stamps, her grandson Tyrone Whitson her siblings: Nannie Mae, Annie, Henry, Wilma, James, and Paul. Left to cherish her memory are her sons Joe Samuel Whitson of Talladega, AL., Joseph (Mary Ann) Whitson of Greenville SC, seven grandchildren: Timothy Curry, Tammy Stamps, Tomminetta Stamps of Washington D.C., Tommy Stamps Jr. of Philadelphia, PA, London A. Whitson of Atlanta, GA, Jaman K. Whitson of Charlotte, NC, and Jaryd Whitson of Greenville, SC, eleven great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. Special nephew Joe W. Stamps, special nieces Linda Stamps (Calvin) Grace and Flora Stamps (Tom) Hunley along with other special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Along with a host of other family and friends.
