Maggie Richardson

With a heart as boundless as the sky, Maggie Smoot Richardson graced this world with her warm spirit and loving nature. Born on January 26, 1950, in Talladega County, Alabama, to the nurturing embrace of her mother, Louise Smoot Sillmon, Maggie embarked on a journey of compassion that would touch countless lives. A devoted mother, Maggie raised her six children with steadfast support and unwavering love. Her home became a sanctuary for many, as she opened her heart to anyone in need, welcoming them into her familial fold. Her joy, infectious laughter, and radiant spirit were like sunlight on the darkest days, illuminating the lives of all who had the privilege to know her. Maggie's deep faith was the bedrock of her life. From her youth at Union Springs Missionary Baptist Church to her worship with various congregations, she drew strength from her relationship with the Lord, serving her community with a commitment and fervor that inspired those around her. Her passions were simple yet profound; she delighted in crossword puzzles, revelled in the fellowship of family gatherings, cooked lovingly for friends and relatives, and took joyful pride in cheering for her beloved Alabama Crimson Tide. Each of these pursuits was a reflection of her generous spirit and indomitable zest for life. On October 7, 2025, Maggie peacefully transitioned from this earthly realm at the age of 75, leaving behind a legacy of love that will forever reside in the hearts of those she cherished. She was preceded in death by her mother, Louise Sillmon, aunts, uncles, and cousins, Essie Smoot, Harvey Edison, Frank Smoot, Jr., Alexandria Denson, Marshall Smoot, and Warren Louis Smoot. Maggie's memory will be lovingly held by her three sons: Michael Smoot, David Smoot, and Howard (Brenda Ragland) Smoot; her daughters: Brenda (Dexter) Lawson, Debra Smoot, and Monica (Cornelius) Funderburg; as well as five sisters, Annie Pearl (Dallas) Cunningham-Denson, Dorothy Storey, Juanita (James) Wilson, Nadean Richey, and Geneva Edison; and a cherished circle of grandchildren including Dex'Tavious Lawson, Tavon (Alexis) Lawson, Anaysha Smoot, Octavious Corbett, Cornellius Funderburg, Jamarious Smoot, Ja'Arielle Curry, and Kendrianna Aaron; three special nephews, Jarrod Edison, Timothy Edison, and Clarence Denson. She also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren and a plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were all dear to her heart.As we remember Maggie, let us celebrate a life well-lived-a life filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to nurturing those around her. Her light will guide us as we continue to share her stories, her joys, and the lessons she imparted.
