Lorraine Suttle Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Lorraine Suttle was born in Lincoln, Alabama on December 20, 1938. She was one of seven children born to the late Grover and Hazel Suttle. Lorraine attended Talladega County Public Schools. She graduated with the class of 1957 from Talladega Country Training School (TCTS). Lorraine wanted to carry her talents up north to New York after graduating from high school. She spent several years in sales. Lorraine changed careers in the early 1980s. She understood she wanted to help and be of service to others. She decided to go back to school and get her nursing degree. Lorraine worked as a nurse at the Metropolitan Hospital in Harlem, New York, until she retired. Lorraine, despite her retirement, pursued her enthusiasm for helping people by working on private duty cases. Lorraine, lovingly known as "Lo" by her family and friends, was recognized for her sweet and caring nature, but most notably for her fashionable sense of style. Anyone who knew her knew she was obsessed with appearance. Her fashion sense, notably her sharp haircuts, was constantly praised. Lorraine's life was full and pleasant. She enjoyed traveling, visiting places both within and outside of the United States, such as Jamaica, Tortola, and St. Lucia. Lorraine loved flowers and found tremendous satisfaction in caring for the various plants she had in her house. "Nana" was one of Lorraine's proudest and most esteemed titles. Especially with the birth of her granddaughter Kennedi Star in 2007. Lorraine was a devoted grandmother who was hands-on and a big influence in the lives of her two grandchildren. Until God called her home, she spent a large part of her day busied with their activities and commitments. Lorraine will be remembered as a loving, caring, kind, protective, no-nonsense, stylish, and sophisticated diva. On Monday, May 16, 2022, Lorraine peacefully exchanged her 83-year legacy of love and fashion for eternal rest while under the care of Bronx Care Health System in Bronx, New York. She is preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Hazel Suttle, brothers, Thomas Suttle, Jerry Suttle, and J. D. Suttle and aunt, Ruth Fomby. Lorraine is survived by her only child, son Kenneth T. Drayton, grandchildren Derrick A. McGraw and Kennedi S. Drayton, daughters Monica N. Brown and Diane M. Gadsden, goddaughter Shakeya Woodward, sisters Annette Threatt and Bertha Kirkland, brother Henry L. Suttle, sister-in-law's Geraldine Suttle, Eula Suttle, and Dorothy Suttle, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her brothers Thomas Suttle, Jerry Suttle, J. D. Suttle, and Aunt Ruth Fomby.
