October 11, 1959 - June 1, 2021
Mrs. Karen Barge Scott was born to the late Clarence W. Blount and Annette Barge Hall on October 11, 1959 in Pensacola, Florida. Karen was a true servant of the Lord and it was proven throughout her earthly journey. At an early age, Karen united with Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida. She received her education in the Escambia County School System and was a graduate of Escambia High School in Pensacola, Florida. Karen was such an enthusiastic and fun-loving person, with a contagious personality. Upon completing her education, Karen began her working career with Southern Bell as a telephone operator. She loved her job because she LOVED talking to people. In September 1980, Karen gave birth to her one and only beautiful daughter Lynn Marie. Lynn was the light of Karen's eye. There wasn't a thing in this world she would not do for her baby. She always made sure she had the best she could possibly give her, and this includes giving Lynn Marie the best dad in the world. In June 1988, after relocating to Atlanta, GA for work, Karen met and fell in love with her soul mate and best friend William Cedric Scott. On October 25, 1989 they became husband and wife, and William became a father to her daughter Lynn. This family unit grew and blossomed for 32 years and Karen was the glue that kept it all together. While living in the Atlanta area, Karen remained a servant of God and united with Israel Missionary Baptist Church. Her life was her family. She loved having her family around her and seeing them happy is what drove her and motivated her in life. In 2007, Karen and William decided to leave the city life behind and make Talladega, Alabama their home. She loved the idea of living a "Green Acres" kind of life. And that is exactly what she did. Karen was DEFINITELY a people person, the life of the party, and she NEVER met a stranger. She genuinely cared about any and every person she encountered, all along the way touching people's lives in some way, shape or form. Karen left an impression on every person she met. She loved life and was grateful for every moment she had of it. She had a beautiful and bright smile that would light up the darkest room. Karen was an artist at heart, but she had a passion for painting, especially mosaic designs and stained glass. She loved to work in her garden growing beautiful flowers and different fruits and vegetables. She loved taking care of her animals especially her puppies. Karen loved to shop and could never pass up a good deal, anyone he knew her knows this. She was a flamboyant dresser that had her own sense of style when it came to clothing. She loved anything that sparkled and anything with fur. Karen really enjoyed being a part of a church family. She found much strength and her spiritual knowledge and faith were increased through her church home at Rushing Springs Baptist Church under the leadership and guidance of Reverend Clarence Woodward and his wife Regina. She loved singing in the church choir and participating in church ministries like the hospitality and decoration committees. Karen was the definition of a loving wife, mother, daughter, and sister. She will truly be missed by all the hearts she touched and joy she brought to everyone she encountered. After defeating the odds of a thirty-year battle with Sickle-Cell Anemia and proving all the doctors incorrect who put a time on Karen's God given life many years ago, Karen realized the battle was not hers, it was the Lord's. In the early morning hour of Tuesday, June 1, 2021, while under the care of Brookwood Citizen's Baptist Medical Center, Karen serenely gained her heavenly wings and transitioned to her eternal home on high when she heard the call of her Master saying, "Well Done My Good and Faithful Servant". Karen was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Blount. To honor and to cherish her memory, she leaves a loving, caring, and devoted husband of 31 years William C. Scott; her one and only beautiful daughter, Lynn M. Scott and future son-in-law Christopher D. Colbert; her beloved mother, Annette Barge Hall; one sister, Claretta Blount; two brothers-in-law Norris L. (Belinda) Scott and Joseph C. Hickman; two sisters-in-law Patricia Jones and Sandra Scott; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Prayer Service will be conducted by Reverend Clarence Woodward of Rushing Springs Baptist Church.
