Julius Thomas

With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we mourn the loss of our beloved Mr. Julius O.B. "Mr. T" Thomas, who departed this earthly realm on April 23, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on July 14, 1930, in Goodwater, Alabama, Julius was the loving son of Olar and Julia R. Posey Thomas. He leaves behind a rich legacy of love, faith, and unwavering service. A man of steadfast faith, Julius accepted Christ as his personal Savior at a young age. His spiritual journey began at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church, where he dedicated over 35 years of service as a deacon. Later, he embraced fellowship at Kingdom Life Ministries, supporting his son as pastor in various church auxiliaries. At the time of his passing, Julius was attending Mt. Cleveland Missionary Baptist Church, attending whenever his health allowed, always with his beloved wife, Mary. Education was a cornerstone of Julius's life. He excelled in the Coosa County School System, ultimately graduating with honors from Westside High School in Talladega. His pursuit of knowledge led him to Ayers Technical College, where he earned an associate's degree, followed by a Bachelor's in Architectural Design and a Master's in Education from Auburn University. Julius's service to his country was honorable and commendable. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, he dedicated eight years of active service and continued in the Army Reserve, retiring as a Sergeant First Class after twelve years. His bravery earned him numerous medals, badges, and commendations, reflecting his steadfast commitment to duty. In his professional life, he was a passionate educator and a well-respected architect (owning his own business), known for designing a myriad of buildings throughout Alabama. Julius was a pioneer in many respects-not just an accomplished architect whose creations graced the skylines of Alabama, but also a dedicated community servant who offered his time and energy as an auxiliary police officer. His work with the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the Civil Air Patrol enriched the lives of many, as he tirelessly assisted and inspired countless individuals. In his personal life, Julius-affectionately known as "Macgyver"-was a creative tinkerer, always ready to build, fix, or invent. At the age of 78, he earned a Black Belt in Karate, proving that his tenacity and resolve were as enduring as his love for life. Following the heartfelt loss of his first wife, Eula Belle Taylor Thomas, with whom he raised four sons, Julius later found love again at the age of 80, marrying Mary Jones Thomas. Their 15 years together were filled with laughter, love, and shared dreams. Julius will be fondly remembered as the "coolest and neatest dude in Talladega," often seen in his stylish "SHAFT" suit, taking long walks to maintain his fitness. His larger-than-life spirit, infectious laughter, and wise counsel will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him. He is now reunited in heavenly glory with his cherished parents, Olar and Julia Thomas; his late wife Eula; his son Anthony; and his siblings Clark Thomas, Lester Thomas, Luther Thomas, Byrd Thomas, sister, Sarah Ann Barnett, and bonus daughter, Gloria Jones. Left to cherish his remarkable legacy are his devoted wife, Mary Thomas; three loving sons, Darryl (Marsha) Thomas, Sr., Oran (Cynthia) Thomas, Sr., and Brett (Dytisha) Thomas, Sr.; treasured bonus daughters, Mary Faye Garrett and Barbara (Jerry) Jackson; special daughter, Josephine Quarte; eighteen grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and countless friends. As we gather to share stories and find comfort in our shared love for Julius, let us remember a man whose life was a testament to love, faith, and service. His legacy continues to inspire us, reminding us of the beauty of life well-lived. May his soul find eternal peace, and may we find comfort in knowing he walks with angels now.
