July 20, 1957 - September 3, 2021
On Friday September 3, 2021, God sent his Angel to call home our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend, Joyce Hutchinson Maddox. While we loved her dearly, God, who had shared her for 64 years, was ready to bring her home. Having served her time and completed her earthly duties, she peacefully relinquished her tasks and accepted God's invitation to journey to her heavenly home. Joyce was born on July 20, 1957, in Talladega County, Alabama as Joyce Ann Hutchinson to the late Julius and Ruby Lee Hutchinson. She joined Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church at a young age and rededicated her life to Christ several years ago as a member of Ebenezer. She graduated from Talladega High School in 1976. She was known as a dreamer who loved life, television and books. She would spend countless hours reading love stories and watching daytime soap operas. Joyce worked for years at Tyson Foods and spent many years working for various restaurants earning a reputation as a good cook - she was a true talent in the kitchen. As she navigated this life, she met and married her good friend Phillip Maddox. They remained great friends throughout their marriage Family and Friends were Joyce's love and joy; and she had a special love for her grandchildren, who were often in tow wherever she went. Joyce will be sorely missed by her family and friends and will be remembered for her love and compassion. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Ruby Lee Hutchinson; her siblings Jimmy Lee Hutchinson, Roosevelt Hutchinson, Billy Joe Hutchinson and Brenda Gail Hutchinson; and her grandchild, Kendell Hutchinson. She leaves to cherish her fond memories, her three children, Angela Hutchinson (Alriece), Kelvin Hutchinson (Brianna), and Remar "Shawn" Hutchinson; nine grandchildren, Zahir Scales, Elijah Scales, Tyrese Johnson, Kentarious Twyman, Amira Hutchinson, Quinjarious Armstrong, Requilla Hutchinson and Riley Hutchinson; one great-grandchild, Kairese Johnson; her husband, Phillip Maddox; five sisters, Juanita Robinson, Willie Alma Wallace (Tiran), Annie Francis Hutchinson (Buddy), Teresa K. Bell (Steve), and Sharee C. Hutchinson; seven brothers, Johnny Hutchinson, Melvin Hutchinson, Anthony Hutchinson, Toni Hutchinson, Darren Hutchinson (Laura), Spencer Hutchinson and Michael Whitson (Michelle); several aunts and uncles, including Brenda Williams, Minnie Jones, DeTrolia Garret and Pearly Johnson; and a host of cousins, other relatives and dedicated friends. Our family, community, and friends have lost a loving and sweet woman.
