"As I look back over my life and I think things over. I can truly say that I been blessed, I have a Testimony" These words aptly describe the life and legacy of Mother Jo Ann Allen. Steadfast and unwavering in her faith in God she is a shining example of resilience and determination whose enduring legacy will forever remain etched in our hearts. Mother Allen was born on August 17, 1950, to the union of Joseph Lee Allen and Estelle Willingham Allen in St. Clair County, Alabama. She was the oldest of seven children. Mother Allen received her formal education in the St. Clair County School System where she attended St. Clair County Training School. She valued education and encouraged her children and grandchildren to purse their dreams and aspirations. Mother Allen dedicated her life to the Lord at an early age where she was a member of Bible Way Church of our Lord Jesus Christ under the leadership of Bishop Sherman Thomas. She later served faithfully with her husband at Miracle Hill Church of Lord Jesus Christ for over 50 years. On September 19, 1969, Mother Allen married the love of her life, Pastor Raymond Allen Jr, celebrating 55 years of marriage. Family was the cornerstone of Mother Allen existence, and her devotion to her husband and their child was unwavering and unconditional. Together, they shared a bond forged in love and strengthened by the passage of time, a testament to the enduring power of marriage and partnership. Mother Allen's journey on this earth was defined by compassion, grace, and love. A devoted nursing assistant, she found purpose and fulfillment in caring for the elderly and her adoring family, embodying a spirit of selflessness and kindness that touched the lives of all who knew her. Mother Allen found comfort and deep contentment in the simple joys of life - watching her westerns, cooking (especially her turnip greens), being a master seamstress, and spending quality time with her loved ones. She was full of laughter and love, always joking and teasing her grandchildren, who were the apple of her eyes. When it came to preparing a meal, it was known fact that "Jo Ann CAN COOK." Throughout her illustrious life, Mother Allen was a pillar of strength and a beacon of love within her community and her church. Her dedication serving others was unparalleled, as she was a true servant of God, working in his vineyard in multiple capacities with roles including Missionary President, Sunday School Teacher, Church Secretary, Church Treasurer, and Choir President showcasing her commitment to spreading joy, comforts, and hope to those in need and finding immense fulfillment in her spiritual journey. Following a life filled with faith, purpose, and unwavering love, Mother Allen peacefully transitioned into eternal rest surrounded by her beloved family at the age of 74 in Birmingham, Alabama. While we mourn her physical absence, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. Once Mother Allen, answered the Master's call, she was reunited with her parents, Joseph and Estelle Allen; sons, Christopher Allen and Pierre Allen; brothers, Myron Allen and Jimmie Wayne Allen, and brother-in-law, Joseph Long. Mother Allen leaves a legacy of love and memories to forever be cherished by her loving and devoted husband, Pastor Raymond Allen Jr. of Pell City, AL; daughter, Shevonne (Robert) Hooks of Pell City, AL; son, Pastor Hosea (Regina) Allen of Hoover, AL; brothers, James (Clarice) Allen of Locust Grove, GA and Johnny Ray (Vanessa) Allen of Ragland, AL ; sisters, Judith Long of and Valerie Rogers both of Talladega, AL; daughter-in-law, Naressa Allen of Columbus, MS; grandchildren, Tatiahna (Ray) Horton of Foley, AL, August Calhoun of Pell City, AL , Nadia Allen of Columbus, MS, Sabrina Allen, Jasmine Allen and Micah Allen all of Hoover, AL; great-grandchildren, Ryah Alami Horton and Tyson Gabriel Horton both of Foley, AL, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. As we prepare to bid farewell to Mother Allen, let us reverence, compassion, and gratitude for the profound impact she had on all who were fortunate enough to cross her path. May her soul find eternal peace in the embrace of our savior Jesus Christ and may her memory serve as a guiding light for generations to come.
