Mrs. Janice Beck Truss

Janice was born on January 8, 1953 to her parents the late Albert Clifford Beck, Sr. and Myrtle Chatman Beck. At an early age, Janice confessed Christ and united with Sycamore Baptist Church. Later in life Janice confessed Christ at Howard Chapel CME Church where she was a faithful member of the Stewards Board, Recording Steward, youth director and President of the Missionary Society. She loved her church work and her Howard Chapel Church family. Janice attended Talladega County Training School, Gadsden Junior College, Jacksonville State University and the University of Montevallo earning degrees in Home Economics, English and Elementary Education. She was a member of Alpha Eta Epsilon Sorority, Alabama Education Association, Talladega City Education Association (TCEA), Talladega County Training School Band Boosters and the Alabama Farm Bureau. She served as past treasurer of the TCEA and President of the Band Boosters and Leader of Brownies Troop 109. Janice was employed by the Talladega City Board of Education and was a 5th grade teacher. She received teacher of the month in October 1989 and planned the Academic Awards Banquet at Hal Henderson School. Janice also served as acting principal at Hal Henderson School and later became the principal of C.L. Salter Elementary School. She retired from the Talladega City School System on December 1, 2005. After retiring from the Talladega City School System, Janice taught at Talladega College for several years in the Department of Education. Janice was the 1st black woman selected to receive the Jaycee's Distinguished Outstanding Young Woman Award in 1986. On Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 10:13 a.m. an angel of the Lord from above the heavenly bodies descended to earth and took away the warmth of life of Janice Beck Truss while surrounded by loved ones at Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. Once gaining her angelic wings, Janice was reunited with her parents, Albert and Myrtle Beck; daughter, Brandee Truss Dates; sisters, Barbara Jean Storey, Marie Williams, Amelia Garrett; brothers, Albert Beck, Jr. and John Lynn Beck, Sr.; and brothers-in-law Donell Williams, Alphonso Garrett, David Tolley and Ricardo Eaton. Janice loved children and leaves to mourn her passing, one child whom she adored with all her heart, Daner Patrise Truss (Cleo) Bryant. All others who must live now with only her memories are: her three grandchildren who were the apples of her eye, Maya Patrise Bryant, Amaria Amelia Dates and Jason Alan Dates; her son-in-law, Alan Dates; her devoted sisters, Juliette (Herbert) Collins, Delois (Gerald) Cook, Annie Beck Eaton, and Victoria Beck Tolley; her devoted brother Cedric (Retonja) Beck; sister-in-law, Maxine Beck; brother-in-law, James Storey; aunts, Margaret Chatman, Marquette Chatman and Annie Laura Beck; uncles, Dietrich Chatman and Robert Calhoun; a caring cousin, Faye Andrews; her dear friends, Tameshia Lawson, Sheryl Fuller, Katie Reynolds, Martha Livingston, Brenda Jackson, Marilyn Cameron, Annette Coleman, Tanya Turner, Wilma Cochran, Stephanie Jemison, Katie Parnell and Ruthie Tuck; and a host of friends, other relatives and former students.
