James Evans Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mr. James Evans began life's journey in Talladega, AL on October 24, 1946, when he was born to the union of Tim Evans and Johnnie Mae Roberson Evans. James found assurance in the word of God at an early age and united with First Baptist Church in Cropwell, Alabama. James was educated in the St. Clair County School System and later began his working career as a cement finisher in the construction industry. After many years of hard labor, James retired from Brasfield and Gorrie Construction Company. Along James 75-year earthly journey, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Ms. Elinda Moten on September 13, 1973, and to this union two loving daughters were born, Janet and Jamielene. Affectionately known by his family and friends as "Mayfield", James was well-known in the community, and he loved watching TV and was an avid baseball fan with the Atlanta Braves being his favorite team. James also enjoyed playing his guitar and spending time with his family and friends. On Friday afternoon, August 5, 2022 James peacefully answered God's call and traded his earthly labor for eternal rest while in the care of Brookwood Citizen's Baptist Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tim and Johnnie Evans, four brothers, Preston Evans, L.M. Evans, J.D. Evans, and Thomas Evans, two sisters, Beulah Mae Wilkerson and Iola Moten, and one grandson, Ametrez Marbury. Leaving behind to forever cherish James loving memories are his loving wife of over 40 years, Mrs. Elinda Moten Evans; his two daughters, Janet (Edward) Evans-Marbury and Jamielene (Antoine) Evans-Wynn; bonus son, Patrick (Baretta) Swain; bonus daughter, Carolene Swain; one brother, W.D. (Brenda) Evans; two sisters, Patricia Carter and Teresa Faye Sanders; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
