Mr. Howard Heard, Jr. began life's journey in Talladega County, AL to the parentage of the late Howard Heard, Sr. and Nelsie Mae Embry Heard. Mr. Heard was educated in the Talladega County School System and at the age of sixteen, he left home and enlisted in the United States Army. Mr. Heard served his country for several years and fought in the Vietnam War before he was honorably discharged. Prior to his discharge, he was the recipient of numerous awards including Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal (1st AWD), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry W/Palm, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (KOREA) and Good Conduct Medal Marksman (Rifle M-14). Mr. Heard also furthered his education in leadership while enlisted in the military. Affectionately known as "UNC", Mr. Heard loved and enjoyed entertaining his family and friends. After retiring from the United States Army, Howard settled in Lincoln, Alabama and through the years he purchased him a home on the lake where he could be close to doing what he loved most, which was fishing. Howard enjoyed his retirement by traveling and staying on the fishing banks On February 4, 2022 Howard entered into eternal rest peacefully while under the care of the VA Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. As he transitioned to his eternal rest, he was met by his parents and other family members that had gone before him. Mr. Heard leaves memories that will forever be cherished in the hearts of his loved ones: his son, his siblings, his nieces and nephews and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
