Henry Lee McKenzie

In loving remembrance of Henry Lee McKenzie, who graced our lives with his warmth and compassion, we gather to celebrate his beautiful journey on this earth. Born on March 4, 1951, in Talladega, Alabama, to the cherished union of L.C. McKenzie and Mae Wilma Garrett McKenzie, Henry lived a life that intertwined faith, service, and love. From a young age, Henry embraced the light of Christ at Lily Hill Baptist Church, his faith guiding him throughout his life. Following his education within the Talladega City School System, where he thrived at Westside High School, Henry answered the call of duty by enlisting in the U.S. Army. With a commendable spirit, he served his country with dedication, specializing in Chaparral CRM systems, and receiving multiple decorations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Marksman, and the Good Conduct Medal. After his honorable discharge, Henry embarked on a successful career in the poultry industry at Tyson Foods, where he became a pillar of hard work and dedication. Upon retiring, he poured his heart into the Isiah House, selflessly assisting those in need within his community-an embodiment of his generous spirit. Henry was not only a devoted father and friend but a vibrant force of joy in our lives. Known for his soulful dancing, quick laughter, and soul food culinary skills that could warm any heart, he never met a stranger, leaving behind a legacy of kindness. His passion for life shone brightly in every bicycle ride he took through the neighborhood and every basketball game he played with friends. On the afternoon of March 24, 2026, at the age of 75, Mr. Henry Lee McKenzie answered the Master's call while receiving care at Bill Nichols Veteran's Home in Alexander City, Alabama, surrounded by his beloved family. He now joins his parents, L.C. and Mae Wilma, his brother William, his sisters Joyce Davis, Mattie Pope, and Elizabeth McKenzie, and his niece, Oneika McKenzie, resting in eternal peace. Henry's light continues to shine through his daughter, LaToya (Schuylar) Dates; his sons, Calvin Garrett and Dion (Lisa) Suttle; his devoted sisters, Margie (Robert) Briskey and Barbara Curry; his brother, Johnny McKenzie; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a multitude of cherished relatives and friends who will forever hold his spirit close to their hearts. As we reflect on Henry's life, let us honor his memory with the same joy he brought to us. May we dance to the rhythm of his laughter, savor his soul food in our hearts, and continue to serve our communities as he did-a legacy of love and kindness that will forever guide us.
