Grindl Truss

Ms. Grindl Ann Truss, affectionately known by many as "G Mama," was born on August 30, 1963, to Bishop James A. Truss Sr. and the late Elizabeth Groce Truss. At an early age, Grindl accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and remained a faithful, lifelong member of Little Jerusalem A.F.M. Church of God in Lincoln, Alabama. Her unwavering faith and love for God were evident throughout her life as she faithfully attended worship services and remained committed to her church family. Grindl received her formal education through the Talladega County School System and proudly graduated from Lincoln High School, Class of 1981. Throughout her life, she devoted herself to caring for others, working as a compassionate in-home caregiver until her health began to decline. Grindl found joy in the simple blessings of life. She loved fishing, singing, caring for others, and attending church. However, above all else, her greatest passion was caring for her pride and joy, Shyrielle "Punkin Toodah" Smith. Since 2016, Grindl dedicated her life to raising and nurturing Shyrielle with unconditional love. Wherever G Mama went, her beloved Toodah was faithfully by her side. Their bond was inseparable, and the love they shared will forever remain a treasured legacy. Though G Mama is no longer physically present, her love, laughter, strength, and wisdom will continue to live on through Shyrielle. Ms. Grindl Ann Truss peacefully departed this earthly life in August 19th 2026 while under the compassionate care of UAB St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Elizabeth Groce Truss, her sister, Jeanette Truss, her cherished aunt/bestfriend Carolyn "Lulu" Smith, her godsons, Fred Groce and Stanley Weed, and a host of other beloved relatives who welcomed her into eternal rest. Grindl leaves to cherish her precious memories her devoted father, Bishop James (Debbie) Truss Sr.; her loving daughters, Katoya Truss and Kerriona McNeal; her son, Marchello Wingfield; a host of beloved grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Elder Danny (Janice) Groce and James (Elida) Truss Jr.; one sister, Cynthia (Roosevelt) White; her pride and joy, Shyrielle "Punkin Toodah" Smith; a special daughters-in-law, Jazsmon Burnette and Krystal Herrington; her special aunt/bestfriend, Elder Alice Collins; her special cousin/daughter Kenneisha Walker ; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, church family, and many dear friends. Although our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we rejoice in knowing that Grindl's labor is complete, her faith has become sight, and she now rests peacefully in the presence of her Lord and Savior. Her beautiful spirit, selfless love, and unwavering devotion to family will forever remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.
