Eddie Smith

Mr. Eddie Paul Smith, affectionately known as "RIP," was born on November 3, 1971, in Talladega, Alabama, to Lathan Grant Smith, Sr. and Virginia Rainey Smith. He departed this life on June 17, 2026, at Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama, surrounded by the love of his devoted family. Eddie was the beloved child in a vibrant family of ten siblings, where he was nurtured in a home filled with love, laughter, and faith. He accepted Christ at a young age, finding a spiritual home at Oak Grove Baptist Church, which served as a foundational anchor throughout his life. His educational journey unfolded in the Talladega County School System at Munford High School. With a dedicated spirit, Eddie devoted over 17 years to the Talladega County Highway Department as a mechanic before recently enjoying a well-deserved retirement. Known for his kindness and humility, Eddie's heart overflowed with love for his family and friends. His passions spanned from carpentry to crafting with leather, but it was fishing and playing cards that truly ignited his joy. Eddie's gentle spirit and warm smile left indelible marks on all whose lives he touched, and he will be deeply missed. Eddie now rejoices in eternal peace with the angels and waits to be reunited with his beloved parents, Lathan and Virginia Smith, Sr., and his cherished siblings-James Smith, Phillip Smith, Grant Smith, Mary Fowler, Jean Golden, and Patsy Gurley. Left to cherish his many loving memories is his devoted wife, Judy Smith, alongside their three sons, Jasper Smith, Jonathan (Meaghan) Smith, and Joseph Rainey. He is also survived by his brother, David (Tara) Smith; three sisters, Martha Malone, Becky Smith, and Carra Strickland; three beloved grandchildren, Bradley Rainey, Bella Case, and Marleigh Johnson; as well as special friends, Brent Freeman and Jeff Johns. The legacy of Eddie's life continues through a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who will forever keep his memory etched in their hearts. In this time of reflection, we invite all who knew Eddie to join us in celebrating his life, cherishing the moments spent together, and holding close the love he so freely shared.
