Curtis Lee Bowie

Curtis Lee Bowie, affectionately known as "Pap," was born on June 13, 1942, in Benton, Alabama (Lowndes County). He was the son of Willie and Rosetta Bowie. He believed in working hard, treating people with respect, and carrying himself with dignity in every aspect of life. At an early age, the family moved to Anniston, Alabama where Curtis embraced his faith and became a faithful member of Mars Hill Baptist Church. After graduating from Cobb High School in 1961, Curtis proudly served his country in the United States Army as a paratrooper, earning the distinction of serving with the 101st Airborne Division and the 82nd Airborne Division. Following his military service, Curtis pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business from Jacksonville State University. He went on to enjoy a distinguished 35-year career as a civilian planner at the Anniston Army Depot, where his professionalism and commitment were highly respected. Never one to shy away from hard work, Curtis also owned and operated his lawn care business, C L Smooth Cuts, and was known for the quality of his work. Curtis had a passion for old-school music and could often be found enjoying the timeless sounds of his favorite artists. He was known for being an immaculate dresser who believed in always looking his best. Whether heading to church, attending an event, or simply running errands, Curtis was always sharply dressed, with polished, perfectly shined shoes that reflected his attention to detail and personal pride. He also had a deep interest in current events and politics, faithfully keeping up with the news through CNN and other trusted news outlets. He enjoyed thoughtful conversations about the issues of the day and valued staying informed about the world around him. On July 3, 2026, Curtis Lee Bowie, at the age of 84, peacefully entered eternal rest in the comfort of his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Rosalee Bowie; brothers, Willie J. Bowie, Arthur J. Bowie, Roosevelt Bowie, and Andrew J. Bowie; sister, Sallie Mae Franklin; and mother-in-law, Christine Vines. Curtis is survived by his devoted wife of over 54 years, Eddie Faye Bowie; sons, Kivie (Dr. Michelle) Bowie of Gordon, GA, Kerry (Dr. Sherri-Ann) Bowie of Somerville, MA, and Kristopher (Shquila) Bowie of Birmingham, AL; daughter, Karmen Bowie of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Latosha Chatman of Gordon, GA, Kara (Cailen) Bowie-Hodge of Covington, GA, Jaszia Bowie of Birmingham, AL, Olivia Bowie of Birmingham, AL, Alexis Bowie of Somerville, MA, Sophia Bowie of Somerville, MA, and Natylia Hambright-Bowie of Gordon, GA; brother, Clarence Bowie of Anniston, AL; sisters, Rosalee (Hugh) Buchanan of Anniston, AL and Alberta Freeman of Anniston, AL; and a host of great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Though he will be deeply missed, those who loved him find comfort in knowing that his life was one well lived and that his memory will forever remain in their hearts.
