May 22, 1926 - September 12, 2021
Mrs. Christine Calhoun Hatcher was born on May 22, 1926, to the late Mr. Mel K. Calhoun and the late Mrs. Eliza Cole Calhoun in Talladega, Alabama. Christine confessed Christ at an early age and united with Kings Chapel Congregational Church in Alpine, Alabama. She received her formal education from Talladega County Training School, known today as Talladega County Central High School. Upon graduation from High School, Christine migrated to Seattle, Washington at the age of eighteen for better job opportunities and to further her education by attending college and obtaining her bachelor's degree in education. With this degree in hand, Christine would utilize her skills as an educator for many years. Teaching was Christine's passion, and it was proven by her career lasting over forty years. After retirement, Christine remained in Seattle until her health began to fail in 2017. It was at this time in Christine's life that she would return home with family and enjoy her remaining years while on this earthly journey. Along Christine's journey, she gave birth to her one and only child, Herbert. Later in life, she would make her life complete when she met her soulmate, Mr. Henry Hatcher, and the two became one when they were united in holy Matrimony. Christine's one and only hobby was traveling. She traveled the world and would never stay in one place long. She did what she wanted to do whenever she wanted to do it as long as her health permitted her to do so. Her love for jewelry was astounding. She loved buying jewelry and had jewelry of all styles. Most of all, Christine was a devoted mother, caring grandmother, loving sister, and beloved educator to many. Her grandchildren were the joys of her life. On Sunday September 12, 2021, after God had blessed us with Christine for ninety- five earthly years, Christine accepted her Master's call while in the comfort of her retirement home at Autumn Cove in Anniston, Alabama, and transitioned to her eternal home joining her husband, Henry Hatcher and parents, Mel and Eliza Calhoun. She leaves to cherish her loving memories; one son, Herbert Peterson of Talladega, Alabama; one stepdaughter, Yvette Hatcher of Oxon Hill, Maryland; her two sisters, Annie Dates of Talladega, Alabama and Freddie (James) Green of Greensboro, Alabama; one brother, Otha (Christine) Calhoun of Lanham, Maryland; five grandchildren, Latrease Peterson, Candice Peterson, Latoya Tuck, Duane Hatton and Michael Hatton; three great-grandchildren, Nev'aeh Sessions, Peyton Peterson, and Nyla Peterson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
