Beatrice Garrett

It is with deep sadness and profound respect that we mourn the passing of Ms. Beatrice Swain Garrett, who entered eternal rest on August 20, 2026. Born on June 5, 1936, to the union od Ethen Swain and Lizzie Garrett Swain in Talladega, Alabama, Beatrice was a beacon of light, compassion, and warmth to all who had the privilege of knowing her. As a youth, she united with the AOH Church of God in Alpine, Alabama, where she nurtured a spirit of faith that would guide her throughout her life. Educated within the Talladega County School System, Ms. Garrett dedicated her life to her work in environmental services, ensuring that every space she touched exuded cleanliness and care-qualities that mirrored her love for family and community. Beatrice was known for her culinary talents, particularly her ability to bring people together through the joy of food. Her cooking, especially during family gatherings, was a testament to her loving spirit. She cherished the moments spent grilling outdoors, sharing meals, laughter, and stories that will resonate in the hearts of her loved ones for years to come. Alongside her passion for cooking, Beatrice found joy in travel and cherished the opportunity to minister to others about the Lord, always seeking to uplift those around her. On Thursday morning, she accepted the Master's call, reuniting with her beloved parents, Ethen and Lizzie Swain, husband, Hugh B. Garrett, her daughter Edna Garrett, brothers, E.J. Garrett, Bobby Swain, and Larry Swain, sister, Clara Garrett, and her cherished son-in-law, Allen Burns. Those who have been called home now welcome her with open arms. Ms. Garrett is survived by her devoted sons Ronnie, Kenny (Sandra), Dennis (Michelle), Cedric (Mattie), Artavius, and Dewan (Corrie); her loving daughters Sharon (Herbert) Smith, Augusta Burns, and Kathy (Marvin) Kelley; as well as her brothers Arthur, Kenneth (Linda), and Michael (Mary) Swain, and sisters Datie (L.C.) Gilbert and Faye Swain. She will also be deeply missed by her grandchildren DeKelvin, Keneatra, Allen, Adrian, Arrica, Markayla Kelley, Chris, Cedrical, Bernard, Cedric, Jr., Arie, Kailene, Saqura, Reginald, and Anthony; sister-in-law, Marion Swain; as well as nineteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were touched by her kindness and generosity. In reflecting upon Beatrice's life, we celebrate her unwavering strength, unparalleled love, and the enduring faith that sustained her. While we mourn her loss, we are eternally grateful for the time we were blessed to share with her. May her spirit inspire us to live with love, service, and compassion, as she did every day of her life.
