Willie Woodgett

Ms. Willie Mae Woodgett, age 75, was born July 10, 1949, in Lee County, Alabama to the union of Mr John Willie Phillips and Mrs. Mae Will Griffin Phillips. Mrs. Woodgett accepted Christ at an early age and united with New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a doorkeeper of the Lord until her health began to fail. She received her formal education in the Clay County School System, where she was a graduate of Clay County Training School. She continued to further her education by attending Ayers Technical College where she received her associate's degree in business. Mrs. Woodgett utilized these skills once joining the workforce in many capacities including, a seamstress with Russell Mills, Parent Involvement Coordinator for Cheaha Regional Headstart, and later retiring from Welborn Cabinets in Ashland, Alabama. After retirement, Mrs. Woodgett, was employed with Easter Seals in Ashland as an administrative assistant for 6 years. Along with all the many talents, she was an entrepreneur owning her own catering business with the gifted name "Heavenly Cuisine" which she later passed the talent to her daughter to carry on. Ms. Woodgett enjoyed caring for her family and being a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother. Her commitment and dedication to her family, friends, and community was vividly illustrated over the years while being known as the best culinary chef you could ask for. Spending quality time with family and going out to support her granddaughters were elemental to Ms. Woodgett, making lasting memories with the joys of her life. Ms. Woodgett was a true matriarch and the heart of her family. She loved to laugh and smile, and she genuinely brought joy to others around her. She looked forward to celebrating with those who appreciated and loved her most and would go to war any day about her children and grandchildren. When it came to cooking, the "Mother Willie Mae Woodgett" could put together a meal that would have you coming back for more. Her sweet and kind spirit will be missed immensely by all the hearts she has touched and lives she has encountered. Mrs. Willie Mae Woodgett completed her journey of exuberant life and selfless love on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her beloved family while under the care of Clay County Hospice. Upon gaining her heavenly wings, Mrs. Woodgett was reunited with her beloved parents, John and Mae Phillips, son Carl Woodgett, Jr. and Thomas Edward Woodgett, and two brothers, Charlie L. Phillips and Willie Joe Phillips. Mrs. Woodgett loving memories will remain in the hearts of her loving husband of more than 38 years, Carl Woodgett; five daughters, Carmelia Johnson, Cassandra (Scottie) McLain, Carleva Woodgett, Tina Pickens, and Keisha Twymon; two brothers, Preston Phillips and John Willie Phillips, Jr.; three sisters, Virginia Phillips Hall, Willie Mae Copeland, and Gloria (David) Phillips Staples; four aunts, Irene Goggins, Virginia Phillips, Tina Phillips, and Priscilla Phillips; two special granddaughters she raised as her own, Kortney J. Scott and Kaiden J. Carter; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Mrs. Woodgett will always be remembered for her love of family and others, sense of humor, loyalty, and genuinely kind heart.
