Willie White

Willie "Smokey" White, a gentle soul, was born February 27, 1956 in Talladega, Alabama to the parentage of Robert Swain and Nellie B. White Garrett. A member of Lily Hill Baptist Church, Willie accepted Christ at an early age, allowing his faith to illuminate his path throughout his life. He received his education within the Talladega City School System and graduated from Talladega High School. Following his schooling, he entered the textile industry, where he diligently worked at Crown Textiles. Later in his career, his warm smile and kind demeanor greeted countless customers at Piggly Wiggly, where he was known for bringing joy to those around him. Affectionately known as "Smokey" by family and friends, Willie was a man of boundless kindness, never meeting a stranger and always ready to lend a helping hand. He was renowned for his generosity, often giving selflessly to others, and would indeed give you the shirt off his back. Willie cherished the time spent with his loved ones, often entertaining them with laughter and warmth. He took great pride in nurturing the yards of his neighbors and found joy in the simple pleasures of life, engaging in games that tested his luck and wit. The Lord called Willie "Smokey" White to his eternal home on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the age of 69, while in the care of Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. Willie's presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind. He now rests in peace, reunited with his loved ones who went before him including his parents, ,Robert Swain and Nellie Garrett, sisters, Georgia Richardson, Helen Faye Carter, Cathy Diane White, and Cynthia Garrett, and nephew, Demetrius White. Willie "Smokey" White will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered, forever etched in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Survivors include his beloved brothers, Samuel (Ella) White, Bruce (LaShawnda Weed) Garrett, and Charles Swain; one sister, Teresa Swain; nieces and nephews, Sylvia Garrett, Melody Best, Anthony Richardson, Melvin Richardson, Robert Carter, III, Raven Carter Evans, Kendrick Jackson, Candace Fair, Kory Fair, Sherrica Garrett, Kelvin White, Shakira Garrett, Roslyn Garrett, Jakylin Flemming, Laterica, Maleek, LaQuez, Shanica Swain, Swantia Swain Bracey, Shateria Swain, Charles Cameron Swain, Kayla Swain, and Diamond Swain; and a host of other relatives, and friends. In this time of mourning, we ask for your thoughts and prayers to uplift and comfort the White family as they navigate through this period of grief and loss. Willie may have left this earthly realm, but his spirit will forever shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved him. Rest in peace, Willie "Smokey" White. You will never be forgotten.
