Willie Radney

Willie A. Radney was born on October 12, 1935 to the union of Alfred Radney and Maude Cook Radney in Talladega, Alabama. Mr. Radney accepted Christ at an early age and united with Star of Zion AME Church. He was educated in the Talladega City School System and was a graduate and football player at Westside High School. He had the privilege of being one of the original students to enrolled at Westside High School when it first opened. Mr. Radney remained true to his Alma Mata and was one of the main organizers of the Westside Drury Reunion. Mr. Radney furthered his education at Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama where he received his bachelor's degree along with several other outstanding awards and was a member of the A& M Bulldogs football team. He later enlisted in the United States Army serving his country for 2 years before being honorably discharged. Once returning to civilian life, Mr. Radney began his career working two jobs, first as an Emergency Room Technician at Citizen's Baptist Medical Center where he remained a devoted employee prior to retiring after 25 years of dedicated service and second as a custodian for Citizen's Bank retiring after 34 years of dedicated service. Along the path of Mr. Radney's life journey, he met and married his soulmate, the former Ms. Bettie Lawler, and this union was blessed with two sons , Greg and Reginald. Mr. Radney loved his family and worked hard to provide them with all their needs. He loved working in his community and helping those that needed aftercare once being released from the hospital. Caring for others was a passion for him. Mr. Radney served as hospice before there was hospice. He was a very kind- and soft-hearted person always willing to lend a helping hand. When he wasn't busy working in the community, he would be spending time on the banks fishing or watching a little sports, including the A&M Bulldogs. On Saturday, February 4, 2023, Mr. Radney peacefully transitioned from this 87-year earthly journey to eternal rest while in the comfort of his home surrounded by loved ones. Preceding him in death were his beloved wife, Bettie Lawler Radney, parents, Alfred and Maude Radney, and sister, Iola Radney Poston. Mr. Radney's memories will remain in the hearts of his two sons, Greg (Lorraine) Radney and Reginald (special friend Melba) Radney; three sisters, Cheryl (Charles) Jurceka, C.K. Pennie Isbell Beeman, and Celeste Isbell; and a host of other relatives and friends.
