Vertise Swain

Ms. Vertise "Geechie" Swain, a beloved, sister, aunt, and friend known for her unwavering faith and commitment to family was born on July 1, 1955, in Talladega. She was the cherished daughter of Archie Swain and Sadie Mae Lindsey Swain and one of thirteen siblings. Throughout her life, her dedication to God and those around her shone brightly. From her modest beginnings in a large family, she embraced a deep devotion to family, faith, God, and service. A woman of strong faith, Ms. Swain found solace and purpose in her relationship with the Lord. From her early days at Kingston Missionary Baptist Church and Kymulga Deliverance Temple to her current membership at Faith Cathedral, she demonstrated a steadfast commitment to her spiritual journey. Following her education at Talladega County Training School, she embarked on a career at Nikki Lou Sewing Plant as a seamstress before her thirty-seven-year tenure with the Talladega County Revenue Commissioner's Office as a Probate Clerk. Ms. Swain's true passion, however, lay in her devotion to her family. She was especially close to her beloved nieces, Jeanetta and Tamara, whom she considered as her own daughters. Her unconditional love, wisdom, and kindness enriched the lives of all who knew her, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. As time winds its course, we look ahead to a future where Ms. Swain's spirit transcends this earthly realm, as she embarks on her journey towards eternal peace. On Thursday evening, October 10, 2024, as the heavens open their gates to welcome an angel, Ms. Vertise "Geechie" Swain will be remembered for her genuine spirit, compassion, and dedication to all who crossed her path. In her passing, she now joins her parents, Archie and Sadie Swain, brothers, Archie Lee (Juanita) Swain, K.C. Swain, and Perry Swain, sister, Rubertha Swain Dates Thompson, brother-in-law, Samuel Cody, and sister-in-law, Betty Swain. In the tapestry of memories that remain, Ms. Swain leaves behind a legacy woven with love, laughter, and unwavering familial ties. Her presence will forever resonate in the hearts of her two loving sisters, Bernice Swain Cody and Joyce Swain Alford; six brothers, Willie James (Darnice) Swain, A.C. Swain, Willie L. (Dorothy) Swain, Sherry Swain, John Wesley Swain, and Roy Bernard (Eleanor) Swain; special son, Maurice Thompson; and a multitude of loving, caring, and adorable nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. May her legacy of love, faith, and compassion forever linger in the hearts of those she touched as we bid a fond farewell to this remarkable soul.
