Theresa Hawkins

On August 9, 1955 in Talladega, Alabama, Theresa (Kelly) Hawkins was born to the union of the late Mr. Ernest Kelly and the late Mrs. Josie Curry Kelly. Theresa confessed Christ at an early age and united with Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful member until her health failed. For many years, she worked diligently in the Lord's vineyard, actively serving as a member of the choir, an usher, a deaconess, working on the kitchen committee, and as president of the missionary society. Theresa loved the Lord and serving in her community. She received her formal education in the Talladega County School System and attended Ophelia S. Hill School in Munford, AL. Theresa's professional career led her on a variety of paths, including Kroger, Talladega City School System, and Honda Manufacturing of Alabama. It wasn't until the year 1991 that Theresa realized what her calling really was.... "Insurance Sales"!! After 15 years of working in the insurance industry and selling over one million dollars in insurance policies, Theresa decided to retire and enjoy the fruit of her labor; however, Theresa's professional career soon brought her out of retirement and led her in a different direction when she started working in food service as a professional baker at Alabama Industries for the Deaf and Blind (AIDB) in Talladega, which is where she later retired from after more than 10 years of dedicated service. Theresa affectionately known as "The Insurance Lady" by her family, friends, and customers, was blessed with a journey of more than 67 beautiful earthly years. Along this journey, Theresa met Mr. Samuel Hawkins, and after nearly two years of realizing this was her soulmate, on March 3, 1972, they were united in Holy Matrimony and with the blessing of God being bestowed upon their marriage, 50 golden years were shared and four loving children, Rodney, Cecelia, Alicia, and Michelle. Because of her love for cooking and baking, Theresa loved having friends and family around for meals and a little family fun. She enjoyed spending time with her family and watching her game shows, but during football season, it was all about "The Alabama Roll Tide"!!! On Friday, October 28, 2022 Theresa peacefully transitioned from this blessed 67 year earthly journey as she boarded the train to glory for eternal rest with the Lord. She was reunited with her loving son, Rodney Hawkins, beautiful daughter, Michelle Hawkins, and parents Ernest and Josie Kelly. Theresa will truly be missed not only by family, but all the lives she has touched in some way along her 67-year journey. Theresa's legacy of love and precious memories will forever be remembered and cherished by her loving and devoted husband, Samuel Hawkins; two daughters, Cecelia Hawkins and Alicia (Tavous Suttle) Hawkins; four brothers, William (Jean) Kelly, Anthony (LaDean Kelly), Darryl Kelly, and Gregory (Jackie) Kelly; four sisters, Barbara Twymon, Emma (Bobby) Brown, Wanda (William) Cunningham, and Nelda Kelly; daughter-in-law, Stacey Hawkins; grandchildren, Mortavius Jamal Hawkins, Damion Hawkins, Morgan Hawkins, Samuel Hawkins, III, Kason Suttle, Skylar Suttle; great-grandchildren, Mortavious Hawkins Jr, Ayce Hawkins, Austin Hawkins and Bryson Hawkins; Goddaughter, Ti'Daijah Curry; loving sister-in-law, Anne Hawkins Manns; brother-in-law, James Hawkins Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and co-workers.
