Tangela Johnson

Tangela Whatley Johnson, affectionately known as Tangie, was born on December 16, 1966, to her proud parents, Ann J. Whatley and the late Billy L. Whatley. She was educated in the Anniston City School System and graduated from Anniston High School in 1985. While in high school, Tangie was a member of the marching band and the color guard. Tangie accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and later joined Kingdom Place Ministry under the leadership of Pastor Marcus Dunn, Sr. In 1992, Tangela's life was immensely blessed with the birth of her only child, her son Brandon. Her life revolved around him. She was a devoted mother who always put her son's needs first, and their bond was unbreakable. As a mother, she was a guiding light and a source of unwavering love. She nurtured, protected and inspired him, instilling in him values of integrity and compassion. Her legacy as a mother will forever be measured by the love Brandon carries in his heart for her. Tangela was a talented artist who expressed herself through her many drawings and paintings. Her deep passion for arts and crafts led her to become an entrepreneur in 2018. She became the owner and operator of her own business, Candle Occasions, selling soaps and candles. In 2019, the Anniston published an article spotlighting her business. In her spare time, Tangie could be found engaged in a good book. She approached life with a fearless attitude, unafraid to stand her ground and not take any nonsense from anyone. On Friday, August 30, 2024, while in the comfort of her home, Tangie's journey on this earth came to an end when she answered the Master's call and entered eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her father, Billy L. Whatley; sisters, Angie Whatley, Angela Whatley and Tangela Whatley; brothers, Billy Whatley, II and Billy Whatley, III; and grandparents, Willette Whatley, Samuel Whatley, Sr., Fannie Lou Young, and Burt Young, Sr. She leaves to cherish her memories, a loving son, Brandon Whatley; granddaughter, Ava Whatley; nephews, Cameron (Ashley) Lucas, Donovan (Sarah) Lucas; nieces, Briana Lucas, Kaelea (Ta'kiaya Riviore) Lucas-Riviore; great-niece, Londyn Lucas; a host of other family members and friends. As we grieve her loss, let us also take comfort in the memories of her laughter, her creativity, and the love she shared with those around her. Tangela Johnson, your light will continue to shine in our hearts forever.
